にもかかわらず、主は御自分の民を懲らしめるのを、御心にかなうことと見ておられる。まことに、主は民の忍耐と信仰を試される。しかしながら、主に頼る者はだれであろうと、終わりの日に高く上げられる。モーサヤ書２３：２１－２２

Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and faith.  Nevertheless — whosever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day. Mosiah 23:21-22 

In this scripture, Alma reminds us that even righteous people have trials and challenges.

この聖句でアルマは正しい人ですら試練や苦難があると教えています。

Alma and his people had escaped from king Noah.  They were living in a place called Helam.  They were living righteously and were being blessed.  They were doing all the things that they were told to do.

アルマとその民はノア王から逃れました。彼らはヒーラムと呼ばれるところに住み、正しく生活し祝福を受けていました。彼らはするように教えられたことはすべて行っていました。

But, the armies of the Lamanites found them.  They were all captured by the Lamanites.  The Lamanites did not like Alma and his people.  They forced Alma and his people to work for them and to carry heavy burdens.  They treated them like they were animals.

しかしレーマン人の軍隊に見つかり彼らは皆レーマン人に捕らえられました。レーマン人はアルマとその民が好きではありませんでした。彼らはアルマとその民に重荷を運ばせ彼らのために働かせました。まるで動物のように扱ったのです。

Alma and his people prayed for help.  The Lamanites told them to stop praying.  They watched them and killed anyone who prayed.

アルマとその民は助けを求めて祈りました。レーマン人はお祈りをやめるよう言いました。そして彼らを見張り、祈る者をだれでも殺しました。

But the Lord was watching over his people.  He knew that they were doing their best to keep the commandments.  He saw their faith and their patience.  Still, the Lord did not deliver them from this terrible situation right away.

しかし主は彼ら（アルマとその民）を見守っておられました。主は彼らが戒めを守るため最善を尽くしていることをご存知であり、彼らの信仰と行いを見ておられました。けれど、主はその悲惨な状況からすぐには救い出されませんでした。

The Lord did help the people to have greater strength.  He helped them to get through their trials and burdens, because of their faith.  Finally, the Lord made a way for them to escape from this terrible trial.

主は彼らがより強い力を得るよう助けてくださいました。主は彼らの信仰のゆえ試練と重荷に耐えれるよう助けてくださいました。そして最後に主はその恐ろしい試練から逃れられる方法を用意してくださいました。

In our own lives, we all experience trials.  Sometimes, we feel that it is not fair.  We are doing our best to keep the commandments.  We are living righteously.  Why are we given such hard trials in our lives?

私たちは皆人生で試練を経験します。時々公平ではないと感じることもあります。私たちは戒めを守るよう最善を尽くしています。また正しい生活もしています。なのにどうしてそんなに難しい試練を受けるのでしょう？

Just like with Alma and his people, the Lord gives us opportunities to increase our faith and our testimonies.  The Lord knows we can only do that by experiencing difficult challenges.  It is hard, but the end result is greater faith and greater blessings.

まさにアルマとその民のように、主は私たちに信仰と証を強める機会を与えてくださいます。主は私たちが難しい困難を経験することでのみそれができることをご存知なのです。それは難しいですが最終結果は偉大な信仰と祝福なのです。

The most important thing to remember is that the Lord loves each one of us.  He knows what are trials are.  He knows what we can become.  He knows what we must experience in this life.

覚えておくべき最も大切なことは主が私たち一人一人を愛しておられるということです。主は試練が何で、私たちが何になれるのかをご存知です。主は私たちがこの世で何を経験すべきかをご存知です。

As we keep the commandments, we will receive the promised blessings.  Just like Alma and his people, we may not be delivered from our trials quickly, but we will be blessed with the strength to get through the trials.  We just need to do our best and the Lord will do the rest.

私たちが戒めを守るとき約束された祝福を受けます。ちょうどアルマと彼の民のように試練からすぐには開放されないかもしれません。しかし私たちは試練に耐える力を祝福されます。私たちはただ最善を尽くすことで主はその後の面倒を見てくださいます。

May we go forward with greater faith this week.  May we remember the trials of Alma and his people.  May we remember that the Lord will always take care of us if we keep his commandments.  I know that these things are true.

より大きな信仰を持って今週も前進しましょう。アルマとその民の試練を思い起こしましょう。もし私たちが戒めを守るならば主は私たちの面倒を見てくださることを思い起こしましょう。私はこれらのことが真実だと知っています。
