したがって、わが子よ、同胞に対して常に憐れみ深くありなさい。公正に振る舞、義にかなって裁き、絶えず善を行いなさい。これらのことをすべて行えば、そのときあなたは報いを受けるであろう。まことに、あなたに憐れみが再び回復され、再び公正が回復され、再び義にかなった裁きが回復され、再び善が報われるであろう。アルマ章４１：１４

Therefore, my son, see that you are merciful unto your brethren; deal justly, judge righteously, and do good continually; and if ye do all these things then shall ye receive your reward; yea, ye shall have mercy restored unto you again; ye shall have justice restored unto you again; ye shall have righteous judgement restored unto you again; and ye shall have good rewarded unto you again.  Alma 41:14

In this scripture, Alma is speaking to his youngest son, Corianton.  Corianton has some struggles while serving as a missionary and did not obey all the mission rules.  Alma tries to teach him about the gospel and to answer some of Corianton’s questions.  The things that Alma teaches his son are also good for us to remember.

この聖句ではアルマが末の息子、コリアントンに語りかけています。コリアントンは宣教師として働いているとき悩み苦しんでおり、全ての宣教師ルールにも従っていませんでした。アルマは彼に福音について教え、彼の疑問に答えようとしました。アルマが息子に教えた事柄は私たちにとっても覚えておいて良いことです。

In this short scripture, Alma teaches us how we should live our lives and how we should act towards other people.  It is simple.  It is easy to understand.  But it is hard to do sometimes.

この短い聖句ではアルマが私たちにどのように生きるべきか、また他人にどう接するべきかを教えています。それは簡単でわかりやすいことですが実行することは時折難しいのです。

This is the way the Savior acted towards the people he met.  He was always merciful.  He always judged righteously.  He always did good.

これが救い主が会われた人々に対してとられた行動です。主は常に憐れみ深く、義にかなった裁きをし、善を行われました。

It is easy to be nice to people that we know well and that are nice to us.  

よく知っている人や親切にしてくれる人に親切にすることは簡単なことです。

But that is not what this scripture teaches us.  It does not say that we should only be merciful to those who are nice to us first.  It does not say that we should only do good for nice people.  It does not set any limits at all.  

しかしそれはこの聖句で教えていることではありません。よくしてくれる人だけに憐れみ深くしなさいとは言っていませんし、よい人だけによいことをしなさいとも言っていません。どのような制限もあってはいけません。

If we follow what Alma teaches us in this scripture, we must be polite to everyone.  In fact, it is probably more important to be kind to those people that seem strange to us.  Every person that we meet is a son or daughter of Heavenly Father.  

もしアルマがこの聖句で教えていることに従うならすべての人に礼儀正しくなければなりません。実際、見知らぬ人に親切であることのほうがおそらくもっと重要です。私たちが出会うすべての人が天父の息子、娘なのです。

There are great promises made to us if we follow Alma’s instructions.  We are taught that we will receive back exactly what we give.  If we are merciful to others, we will receive mercy.  If we are kind to others, we will receive kindness ourselves.  And if we do good to others, we will get good things in return.

アルマの勧告に従うとき、私たちはすばらしい約束が与えられています。私たちは与えたものを受け取ると教えられています。もし他人に慈悲深ければ、慈悲を受けます。もし他人に親切であれば、親切を受けます。そしてもし他人によいことをすればよいことを刈り取るのです。

It is up to us.  Do we want these blessings?  All we have to do is to follow the steps that Alma teaches us about.  

May we make an extra effort this week to be kind to everyone we meet.  May we be merciful to everyone.  And may we do good continually.  I know that if we will do these small and simple things, we will receive the promised blessings.  

それは私たち次第なのです。そのような祝福を欲しくはありませんか？すべきことはただアルマが教えたステップに従うことだけです。今週会う人すべてに親切であれるよういっそう努力をしてみましょう。すべての人に慈悲深くありましょう。そして続けてよいことをしようではありませんか。私はこのような小さくて簡単な事柄をするならば約束された祝福を受けることを知っています。
