私に学び、わたしの言葉を聴きなさい。わたしの御霊の柔和な道を歩きなさい。そうすれば、あなたはわたしによって平安を得るであろう。教義と聖約１９：２３

Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.  D&C 19:23

This scripture was given through the Prophet Joseph Smith to Martin Harris, one of the Three Witnesses of the Book of Mormon.  

この聖句は預言者ジョセフスミスを通してモルモン書の三人の見証者の一人であったマーティン・ハリスに与えられました。

This scripture teaches an important principle to all of us.  It teaches us how to be happy.

この聖句では私たちに重要な原則を教えています。幸福にどうしたらなれるのか教えています。

In this scripture, we are given three instructions.

この聖句には教訓となる教えが三つあります。

First, we are told to “learn of me”.  This means that we need to study the gospel.  We need to read the scriptures.  We need to attend our Sunday School, Priesthood, and Relief Society meetings.  

まず、『私に学びなさい』と教えられました。つまり福音を学びなさいという意味です。私たちは聖典を読み、日曜学校や神権会、扶助協会に出席する必要があります。

We also need to listen to the General Conference talks.  We need to read the General Conference talks.  We need to study the General Conference talks.  We are told that they are modern day scripture.  We need to study them diligently.

また総大会の話を聴き、読み、それについてよく学ぶ必要があります。その言葉は現代の聖典であると教えられています。私たちはそれらを熱心に学ぶ必要があります。

Second, we are told to “listen to my words”.  It is not enough just to study about the gospel.  We need to pray about what we read and what we learn.  We need to receive confirmation from the Holy Ghost that the things we learned are true.  We need to listen to the promptings of the Spirit.

次に『わたしの言葉を聴きなさい』と教えられました。福音を単に勉強するだけでは十分ではありません。私たちは読んだ事や学んだ事について祈る必要があります。私たちは学んだ事柄について聖霊を通して証を得なければなりません。聖霊のささやきを聴く必要があります。

Third, we are told to “walk in the meekness of my Spirit”.  This means that we need to take action.  We need to use the things we learn to improve our behavior.  We need to actually do the things we learn about.  It is not enough just to know them.  We must do them.

3つ目に『私の御霊の柔和な道を歩きなさい』と教えられました。それには行動する必要があります。学んだ事がらを使い私たちの振る舞いを改善する必要があります。学んだ事を行なわねばなりません。知識を得るだけではなく、それを実行しなければ’なりません。

The words to the Primary song, “I am a Child of God” originally said “teach me all that I must know”.  However, in the 1970’s, then Elder Spencer W. Kimball said, after a children’s choir had sung that song, that the words really should be “teach me all that I must do”.  It is not enough, he said, just to know.  We must “do”. 

プライマリーで歌う賛美歌「神の子です」では「み言葉すべてわかるように」と初版では歌わていましたが1970代にスペンサーW キンボール長老が子供の聖歌隊がその歌を歌うのを聞いて歌詞は『み心すべて行えるように（注：日本語版ではこの部分は訳されていないようです）』であるべきだと言われました。彼は知るだけではなく、『行動する』必要があると言われました。

If we do these three things, what is the promise?  

これら3つの教えに従うとき、どのような約束受けるのでしょう？

The promise is “ye shall have peace in me”.  

それは『わたしによって平安を得るであろう』という約束です。

It does not say that we will not have any trials.  It does not say that we will not experience hard times.  It does not say that everything will be easy.  It simply says that we will have peace.

Having peace in our lives means that we can better endure the trials and challenges of this life.  It means that, in spite of the hardships, we can be happy.  It means that our joy will be centered in our Savior Jesus Christ.

試練が無いとは言ってません。困難な時を経験しないとも言ってません。すべての事が容易になるとも言ってません。ただ平安があると言ってます。毎日の生活に平安があることで人生の試練や挑戦（チャレンジ）により良く忍耐、対応できるという意味です。それは困苦のかわりに幸福でいられるという事です。またそれは私たちの幸福が救い主イエス・キリストを中核としたものだということです。

I know that we can have peace in this life if we follow these simple instructions.  I know that the Lord will bless us as we strive to become better followers of Jesus Christ.  I know that we can do all these things.

これらのわかり易い教えに従えば生活に平安が得られることを知っています。イエス・キリストのよりよい従者となるよう努めるなら主は祝福してくださると知っています。私たちにはそれが出来ることを知っています。
