聖文には、「あなたがたの仕えるものを、今日、選びなさい」とある。アルマ３０：９

For thus saith the scripture: Choose ye this day, whom ye will serve.  Alma 30:8

There is a powerful message in this short scripture from Alma.  This scripture is from the time that Korihor was trying to lead the Nephites away from the true gospel.

この短い聖文にはアルマの力強いメッセージが込められています。これはコリホルが真の福音の教えからニーファイ人を引き離そうとしていた頃のものです。

Alma reminds us about our important duty in this life.  

アルマは人生における大切な義務を私たちに思い起こさせています。

First, notice that once again, we are told to take action.  We are told to “choose”.  Choose is a verb.  It describes an action.  

まず、私たちは行動するよう言われていることに気づいてください。「選びなさい」と言われました。「選ぶ」というのは行動を表現する動詞です。

Every day, we have many choices to make.   Some choices are very simple, what to eat, what to wear, when to sleep.  Other choices are more difficult, like do we take time to read our scriptures, or say our prayers, or visit our home teaching families.

毎日、私たちは多くの選択をします。ある選択はとても簡単なもので、何を食べるとか、何を着る、いつ寝るかといったものです。また他の選択はもっと難しく、聖典を読むのに時間をとるのか、お祈をりする、ホームティーチング担当家族を訪問するのかといった選択です。

It is by our choices that we show Heavenly Father that we love him.  In the scriptures it says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments”.  

私たちは天父を愛していることを私たちの選択によって示します。聖文では「もし私を愛するなら、私の戒めを守るべきである」と教えられています。

From the very beginning of this mortal existence, everything has depended upon choosing the right.  Even in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were presented with very difficult and very important choices.  It is through their good choices that we are here today.

この死すべき世の最初から、すべての事がらは正しい選択の結果なのです。エデンの園ですらアダムとエバは非常に困難で重要な選択を提示されました。今日私たちがあるのは彼らのよい選択の結果なのです。

For us, as for Adam and Eve, there are really only two choices.

アダムとエバと同じように私たちにとっても、実のところ選択肢は二つしかないのです。

We can choose to serve God and keep his commandments, or we can choose to serve Satan.

私たちは神様に仕え、戒めを守ることもできますし、逆にサタンに仕えることもできるのです。

Those are the only two choices.  Everything that we do, every choice that we make, is basically a choice between good and bad.  

それらは二つしかない選択肢です。私たちの行ないや選択のすべては実のところ、おおむね善と悪からの選択なのです。

The Lord has given us commandments and the free agency we need to make choices.  We can choose to follow him and keep his commandments.  We are never forced to choose good.

主は私たちに選択の必要性を与えるため戒めと自由意志を与えられました。私たちは主に従ったり主の戒めを守ったりすることが自由に出来るということです。言い換えれば私たちは決してよい選択を強要される事はないのです。

Satan tries to trick us into choosing bad things.  He tries to make bad things sound good.  He tries to confuse us.  He tells us that it is not important to read our scriptures, or attend our meetings, or serve others.  He tells us that it is not important to live the Word of Wisdom, or to pay our tithing, or to go to the Temple.  

サタンは私たちが間違った悪い選択をするようそそのかします。彼は悪い事を良いことのように見せかけ、私たちを混乱させます。彼は聖典を読むことや集会に出席すること、他の誰かに仕える事などは重要でないとそそのかします。彼は知恵の言葉に従って生活することや什分の一を支払うこと、神殿に行くことなどは重要ではないとそそのかします。

If we want to be happy, we must choose to keep the commandments.  Even though Satan’s temptations may sound good, we can never be happy if we choose the bad.

私たちはもし幸せになりたければ戒めを守るという選択をしなければなりません。たとえサタンの誘惑が魅力的に見えようとも私たちが悪い選択をすれば決して幸せにはなれないのです。

Let’s try hard this week to make good choices in every decision.  Let’s try hard to keep all the commandments.  Let’s try hard to choose to serve the Lord.

今週、すべての決定事項で良い選択ができるよう頑張りましょう。すべての戒めを守るよう頑張りましょう。主に仕えるよう頑張りましょう。

I know if we do these things, we will receive all the promised blessings.  We will be able to be happy.  We will have peace in our homes and in our lives.  All we have to do is to choose to serve the Lord.

これらを行なうなら私たちは約束されたすべての祝福を受けることを私は知っています。そして幸せになることが出来ます。私たちは家庭でも、日々の生活でも平安を得るでしょう。私たちがなすべきことはただ主に仕えるという選択をすることなのです。
