アンモンは、彼らに会うと非常に心を痛めた。見よ、彼らが裸であったうえに、丈夫な縄で縛れていたため、体の皮膚がすりむけていたからである。また、彼らは飢えと渇きとあらゆる苦難を受けて苦しんでいた。それでも、かれらはすべての苦しみに耐えていたのである。アルマ２０：２９

And when Ammon did meet them he was exceedingly sorrowful, for behold they were naked, and their skins were worn exceedingly because of being bound with strong cords.  And they also had suffered hunger, thirst, and all kinds of afflictions; nevertheless they were patient in all their sufferings.  Alma 20:29

This scripture comes from the account of Ammon and his brethren as they served their missions among the Lamanites.  Ammon had been teaching king Lamoni about the gospel and Lamoni and all his people had been converted to the Lord.  

この聖句はレーマン人の間でアンモンと彼の兄弟が行った伝道活動を記述したものです。アンモンはラモーナイ王に福音を教えました。その結果ラモーナイ王とすべての民が主に改宗したのです。

Ammon told Lamoni that Aaron and Muloki and Ammah were in prison in the land of Middoni and that he needed to go there to help them.  Lamoni went with Ammon to Middoni and helped to get Ammon’s brothers out of prison.

アンモンはラモーナイ王にアロンとミュロカイ、アンマがミドーナイの地で牢屋に閉じ込められているので行って彼らを救い出さねばならないと伝えました。ラモーナイ王はアンモンと共にミドーナイの地に行きアンモンの兄弟を牢屋から救い出すのを助けました。

When Aaron and Muloki and Ammah were in prison, they had suffered many things.  The scripture says that their skin was worn because of “being bound with strong cords” and that they had suffered “hunger and thirst and all kinds of afflictions”.

アロンとミュロカイ、アンマが牢屋に入れられていたとき、彼らは多くの苦しみを経験しました。聖句では「丈夫な縄で縛れていたため」体の皮膚がすりむけており、「飢えと渇きとあらゆる苦難を受けて」苦しんでいたと述べています。

The most important part of this scripture is the very last sentence.  

この聖句で最も重要な箇所は最後の部分にあります。

“Nevertheless, they were patient in all their sufferings”.

「それでも、かれらはすべての苦しみに耐えていたのである。」

This is a great example for us.  They were missionaries and were working hard to teach the people.  They wanted to do the work of the Lord.  But they were put in prison and made to suffer many hardships and trials.  It would have been easy for them to complain.  Instead, they were patient.

これは私たちにとって素晴らしい模範になります。彼らは宣教師として民に教えるため熱心に働いていました。彼らは主の業を行いたいと望んでいました。しかし彼らは牢獄に入れられ多くの苦難と試練に苦しみました。彼らが苦情を言うことはたやすかったでしょう。しかし彼らは忍耐したのです。

We all have many hardships and trials in our own lives.  I have never been put in prison or bound with strong cords, though.  My trials are not as severe as the trials they had to endure.  But I am not very patient in my sufferings.

私たちも多くの苦難や試練を人生で経験します。私は牢獄に入れられたり強い縄で縛られたことはありませんし、経験する試練も彼らの試練ほど耐え難いものではありません。しかし私は自分の苦難に対し十分に忍耐強いとはいえません。

As we go through this life, let us remember the example of Aaron and his brothers while in prison.  Let us try to be like them.  We will all have hardships and sufferings.  Those things are part of our mortal experience.

私たちが人生を歩むとき、アロンと彼の兄弟が牢獄にいたときの模範を忘れないでいましょう。そして彼らに見習いましょう。私たちは皆、苦難や苦しみを経験します。それらは私たちが皆、死すべき世で経験するものなのです。

But rather than complaining or thinking that the Lord does not care about us, let us try to be more patient in all our sufferings.  

しかし文句を言ったり、主は自分に関心が無いなどと考えず、すべての苦難に対し、もう少し忍耐強くありましょう。

If we do this, we will gain greater spiritual strength.  We will have more faith in the Lord.  We will become more like our Savior.  

もしそうするならば私たちはより霊的な強さを受けることでしょう。主に対するより強い信仰を持てるでしょう。また救い主のようになれることでしょう。

Let’s try to be more patient this week.  Let’s try to be more like Aaron and his brothers.  Let’s try hard to keep all the commandments at all times and in all circumstances.  I know that we will be blessed as we work hard to do this.

今週、より忍耐強くあるよう努力しましょう。アロンや彼の兄弟を見習うよう努力しましょう。すべての戒めをどのような時、状況でも守るよう努力しましょう。私たちがそうするよう熱心に行うとき祝福されることを私は知っています。
