あなたがたのうち、知恵に不足している者があれば、その人は、とがめもせずに惜しみなくすべての人に与える神に、願い求めるがよい。そうすれば、与えられるであろう。ヤコブの手紙１：５

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.  James 1:5

This scripture from the New Testament is famous for being the scripture that prompted the young boy Joseph Smith to go to the Sacred Grove and ask God for wisdom.

新約聖書にあるこの聖句は少年ジョセフ・スミスが聖なる森に行き神の知恵を尋ね求めるよう促された有名な聖句です。

In our own lives, there are many times when we “lack wisdom”.

私たちの人生や日々の生活でも「知恵に不足」している時が多くあります。

We want to make right choices.  We want to choose the correct path.  We want to do the things that will make us happy.

私たちは正しい選択をしたいと思っています。正しい道を選びたい、幸せになれる事をしたいと望んでいます。

But sometimes it is difficult to know which choice is the right one.

しかしどの選択が正しいか判断するのが難しいことがあります。

Maybe we are trying to decide about taking a new job.  Maybe we are trying to decide where we should live.  Maybe we are trying to decide how to help a family member.

たとえば新しい職場を選ぼうとしたり、どこに住むべきか決めようとしたり、家族の誰かをどのように助けるか決めねばならない時などがそうかもしれません。

There are many decisions that we need to make.  The Lord has promised us that he will give us the wisdom we need to make right choices.

私たちには決定や決断すべき状況が沢山あります。主は私たちが正しい選択が出来るよう知恵を与えると約束してくださっています。

If we want wisdom, we will receive it.  But we have to do our part first.  Just like the Prophet Joseph Smith, we need to think seriously about the choices.  We need to study and learn as much as we can.

もし知恵が欲しければ、それを受けるのです。しかし、まず私たちのすべきことを行わねばなりません。預言者ジョセフ・スミスのように、私たちはそれぞれの選択について真剣に考えねばなりません。出来る限り研究や調査をし学ぶ必要があります。

After we have done all that we can do on our own, we need to ask the Lord for wisdom and guidance.  We need to pray sincerely.  We need to have faith that our prayers will be answered.

私たちが自分で出来ることをすべて行った後に、知恵と導きを求めて主に尋ね求める必要があります。熱心に祈る必要があります。私たちの祈りが答えられるという信仰を持たなければなりません。

If we do all this, we will receive the wisdom that we need.  

これらすべてを行うなら必要な知恵を受けるのです。

However, the answer does not always come quickly.  We have to be patient.  We have to have faith.  We have to keep praying.

しかし答えはいつもすぐにやって来るとは限りません。忍耐や信仰も必要です。祈りも続けなければなりません。

When the time is right, the Lord will give us wisdom.  We will know when the answer comes.  

その時（私たちにとって正しい時）がくれば主は私たちに知恵を与えてくださります。私たちはその時、答えが与えられたことがわかります。

This has happened to me many times in my life.  Sometimes the answer comes quickly.   Sometimes the answer does not come for many weeks or months or even years.   But the answer will come when the time is right.

私は自分の人生で幾度もこの経験をしました。答えがすぐにやって来るときもあります。また答えが何週間、何ヶ月、または何年もやってこない時もあります。しかし答えは（間違いなく神様の目から）一番よいときにやってきます。

I know that the Lord will bless us with wisdom.  I know that we can receive wisdom to make right choices.  I know that our faith will increase as we receive answers to our prayers.  I know that we can follow the example of the Prophet Joseph Smith and “ask God, who giveth to all men liberally”.

主が私たちに知恵を祝福してくださると私は知っています。正しい選択をするために知恵を与えてくださると知っています。私は祈りの答えが与えられるたびに信仰が増していくことを知っています。私たちが預言者ジョセフ・スミスの模範に従って「惜しみなくすべての人に与える神に尋ねる」ことができると知っています。
