But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore, they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God. Alma 17:3
アルマが教会の大判事および大祭司として奉仕していた間、モーサヤの息子たちは14年間レーマン人の間で宣教師として奉仕していました。
While Alma had been serving as the Chief Judge and the High Priest of the Church, the sons of Mosiah had been serving as missionaries for 14 years among the Lamanites.
アルマとモーサヤの息子たちが若い頃、非常に邪悪であったことを覚えているかもしれません。彼らは教会員を迫害し、「罪びとの中でも最も罪深い者」と呼ばれていました。
You may recall that, in their youth, Alma and the sons of Mosiah had been very wicked men. They had persecuted the members of the Church and were described as “the very vilest of sinners”.
しかし、主の天使が遣わされて、彼らに悔い改めを呼びかけました。その天使の警告の結果、彼らは罪を悔い改め、福音に完全に改宗しました。彼らは全員、残りの人生を福音を宣べ伝えることに費やしました。
However, an angel of the Lord was sent to call them to repentance. As a result of that angelic warning, they did repent of their sins and became fully converted to the gospel. All of them spent the rest of their lives preaching the gospel.
この聖句は、モーサヤの息子たちがレーマン人への伝道活動を終えて家に帰る途中、アルマが彼らに会った時の出来事です。彼らは大きな成功を収め、多くのレーマン人が福音の祝福を享受できるよう助けていました。
This scripture is from the time when Alma met the sons of Mosiah as they were returning home from their missionary activities with the Lamanites. They had had great success and had helped many of the Lamanites to enjoy the blessings of the gospel.
私たちが知る限り、アルマは友人たちから何年も連絡を受けていなかったので、彼らに再会できてとても嬉しかったはずです。「しかも、彼らがなおも主にあって兄弟であったので、その喜びはいっそう深かった」のです。
From what we know, Alma had not heard from his friends for many years. He was very glad to see them again. “And what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord”.
この大きな変化はどのようにして起こったのでしょうか。彼らはどのようにして「罪びとの中でも最も罪深い者」から偉大な宣教師になったのでしょうか。
How did this great change take place? How did they go from “the very vilest of sinners” to being great missionaries?
私たちは誰も「罪びとの中でも最も罪深い者」ではありませんが、宣教師たちの経験から私たちは皆、恩恵を受けることができます。私たちは皆、イエス・キリストのより良い弟子になることができます。
While none of us are “the very vilest of sinners”, we can all benefit from the experiences of these missionaries. We can all become better disciples of Jesus Christ.
これは難しいプロセスではありません。私たちの誰もができることです。必要なのは、私たち自身の努力と行動だけです。
The process is not difficult. It is something that each of us can do. It just requires effort and action on our part.
彼らはどのようにして神の力と権能をもって教えることができたのでしょうか。アルマは、彼らが「しばしば祈り、また断食」をしていたからだと語っています。
How is it that they could teach with the power and authority of God? Alma tells us that it was because they had given themselves to “much prayer, and fasting”.
私たちは皆、祈り方を知っています。断食の仕方も知っています。同じ手順に従えば、私たちも神の力と権威をもって教えることができます。
We all know how to pray. We all know how to fast. If we follow the same steps, we too can teach with the power and authority of God.
しかし、それは一夜にして起こるものではありません。モーサヤの息子たちは、祈りと断食、教えと説教に何年も費やしました。自分の生活にこの変化をもたらすのにどれくらいの時間がかかるかは、人により違います。重要なのは、それが可能であるということです。
It does not happen overnight, though. The sons of Mosiah had spent many years, praying and fasting, teaching and preaching. How long it takes to make this change in our own life will be different for each one of us. The important point is that it can be done.
私たちは皆、これらの簡単なステップに従うことができます。私たちは、将来ある時点で同じ祝福を受けることができます。私たちは皆、心からの祈りと断食によって、モーサヤの息子たちのようになることができます。私たちも預言の霊と啓示の霊を受けることができます。私たちも神の力と権能をもって教えることができます。
We each can follow these simple steps. We each can, at some point in the future, receive the same blessings. We each can, by our sincere prayers and fasting, become like the sons of Mosiah. We too can have the spirit of prophecy and the spirit of revelation. We too can teach with the power and authority of God.
新しい週が始まります。アルマとモーサヤの息子たちが受けた変化について考えてみましょう。自分自身の生活について考え、何を変える必要があるかを考えてみましょう。イエス・キリストのより良い弟子になれるように、必要な変化を起こす努力をしましょう。多くの祈りと断食をしてみましょう。聖霊の教えを受けるにふさわしい者となりましょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s think about the changes Alma and the sons of Mosiah made it their lives. Let’s consider our own lives and see what needs to be changed. Let’s put in the effort to make the necessary changes so that we can become better disciples of Jesus Christ. Let’s give ourselves to much prayer and fasting. Let’s be worthy to have the Holy Ghost teach us.
