主はその民をシオンと呼ばれた。彼らが心を一つにし、思いを一つにし、義のうちに住んだからである。そして、彼らの中に貧しいものはなかった。モーセ７：１８

And the Lord called his people ZION, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.  Moses 7:18

In the 7th chapter of Moses, we read about the great prophet Enoch.  Enoch was the great-grandfather of another great prophet, Noah.  We are told that the faith and priesthood power of Enoch was so great that he “spake the word of the Lord, and the earth trembled, and the mountains fled”.

モーセ書７章では、偉大な預言者エノクについて書かれています。エノクは、偉大な預言者ノアの曽祖父でした。エノクの信仰と神権の力はとても大きかったので、彼は「主の言葉を語り、地は揺れ動き、山々は逃げ去った」と言われています。

There were battles among the wicked people, but the wicked people “feared greatly” and would not fight against the people of Enoch.  We are told that “the Lord came and dwelt with his people, and they dwelt in righteousness”.

邪悪な人々の中で戦いがありましたが、彼らは「大いに恐れ」、エノクの人々と戦うことはありませんでした。「主は来て、主の民と共に住まわれた。そして彼らは義のうちに住んだ」と言われています。

There is an interesting comment in verse 17.  It says “the Lord blessed the land, and they were blessed upon the mountains, and upon the high places”.  We are not told how they were blessed or what this means exactly.  

17節には興味深いコメントがあります。「主はその地を祝福され、彼らは山々の上と高い所で祝福された」と書かれています。 彼らがどのように祝福されたのか、それが何を意味するのかは明らかにはされていません。

We do know that in ancient times, when there was no temple available, the blessings of the temple were sometimes given to worthy individuals on top of mountains.  For example, the brother of Jared, Moses, and Nephi were all commanded to go up to the top of a high mountain to receive revelation and knowledge from the Lord.

昔、神殿がなかったとき、ふさわしい人に神殿の祝福が山の頂きで与えられることがあったことを私たちは知っています。たとえば、ヤレドの兄弟、モーセ、ニーファイは皆、主から啓示と知識を受け取るために高い山に登るよう命じられました。

Because of the righteousness of the people of Enoch, the Lord blessed them with great blessings.

エノクの民の義のために、主は彼らを大いに祝福されました。

Unlike the Nephites, there was no dissention among the people of Enoch.  Dissention is one of the tools Satan uses to cause problems in the Church.  Dissention among the Nephites was one of the main causes of their destruction.  Dissention among the members of the Church in Kirtland, Far West, and Nauvoo resulted in persecutions.

ニーファイ人とは異なり、エノクの民の中には争いがありませんでした。争いは、サタンが教会で問題を引き起こすために使う道具のひとつです。ニーファイ人の中にあった争いは、ニーファイ人の破滅の主な原因でした。カートランド、ファーウェスト、ノーブーの教会員の中で争いがあったため、迫害が生じました。

The Lord wants everyone to be happy.  The way to be happy is to keep the commandments.  If we keep the commandments, we will not have contention or dissention.  

主は、皆が幸せになることを望んでおられます。幸せになる方法は、戒めを守ることです。私たちが戒めを守るならば、論争や意見の相違はありません。

Maybe we don’t like the way the Bishop presides over our ward.  Maybe we don’t think the Relief Society presidency is doing things correctly.  Maybe we don’t think the direction we receive from President Nelson is right.

もしかして、ビショップがワードを管理する方法が気に入らないかもしれません。扶助協会の会長会が正しくやっているとは思わないかもしれません。ネルソン大管長から受けた指示は正しくないと思うかもしれません。

Maybe there are members in our ward who are different than we are, or who speak a different language than we do, or who dress differently.  Maybe there are members of our ward that we don’t like.

もしかして、ワードに私たちとは異なり、私たちとは違う言語を話し、違う服装をしている会員がいるかもしれません。私たちのワードに好きではない会員がいるかもしれません。

All of these things cause contention and dissention.  Those are the type of things that we must eliminate from our lives.  If we want to become a “Zion” people, we too need to be “of one heart and one mind”.  We need to be patient with others, other members of our ward, other members of our own family, others who are not yet members of the Church.  We even need to be patient with ourselves, as we struggle each day to improve and to become better followers of Jesus Christ.

これらすべてが論争と意見の相違を引き起こします。これらは私たちの生活から排除しなければならないものです。私たちが「シオン」の民になりたいなら、「心を一つにし、思いを一つにする」必要があります。私たちは他の人、例えばワードの会員、私たち自身の家族のメンバー、まだ教会員ではない人に忍耐強くなる必要があります。日々、改善し、イエス・キリストのより良い従者になるために努力している私たちは、自分自身にも忍耐強くなる必要があります。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the example of the people of Enoch.  Let’s try harder to be of “one heart and one mind”.  Let’s eliminate contention and dissention in our homes and in our wards.  Let’s do our best to become a Zion people.

エノクの民の模範を心に留めて新しい週を過ごしましょう。「心を一つにし、思いを一つにする」ことができますように。私たちの家庭やワードでの論争や意見の相違がなくなりますように。シオンの民となるよう最善を尽くせるよう願っています。
