For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the words of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land. Alma 37:44
アルマ書36章から42章にかけて、アルマが三人の息子に与えた勧告が記されています。アルマはこれらのメッセージの中で力強い教義を教えています。
In chapters 36 to 42 of Alma, we read Alma’s words of counsel to his three sons. Alma teaches some powerful doctrine in these messages.
まず第一に、アルマは模範を通して、親は子供に助言と教えを与える必要があると教えています。現代では、使徒や預言者は、人生の重要な時期に父親が子供に神権の祝福を与えるよう勧めてきました。これらの重要な時期には、新学期の始まり、子供が大学に行くために家を出る時、子供が重要な決断をしなければならない時などがあります。
First of all, by his example Alma teaches us that parents need to counsel with, and give instruction to, their children. In our day, apostles and prophets have encouraged fathers to give their children priesthood blessings at important times in their lives. Some of these important times might be at the beginning of a new school year, or when a child is leaving home to go to college, or when a child has an important decision to make.
アルマは息子たちに聖文を学ぶことの大切さを教えます。彼は聖文から、アンモンとその兄弟たちがレーマン人を教えたときに起こった偉大な奇跡を思い起こさせています。聖文は多くのレーマン人に自分たちの道の誤りを悟らせ、主を知る知識を与えたとアルマは述べています。
Alma teaches his sons about the importance of studying the scriptures. He reminds them of the great miracles that happened when Ammon and his brothers taught the Lamanites from the scriptures. He says that the scriptures convinced many Lamanites of the error of their ways and brought them to the knowledge of the Lord.
そして、リーハイとその家族の旅の道しるべとして主が用意されたリアホナの例を挙げています。リーハイとその家族は、主の指示に従った場合にのみ、まっすぐで容易な道に導かれるという約束された祝福を受けたと諭しています。戒めを守れば、生活は楽になり、問題も少なくなりました。戒めを守らなければ、生活は困難になり、旅は進みませんでした。
He then uses the example of the Liahona, which was prepared by the Lord to guide Lehi and his family in their travels. He points out that Lehi and his family only received the promised blessing of being guided in a straight and easy path if they obeyed the instructions of the Lord. If they kept the commandments, life was easier and there were fewer problems. If they did not keep the commandments, life was more difficult and they did not progress in their journey.
あなたは自分のリアホナを持ちたくありませんか？常に正しい道を知りたくありませんか？ 永遠の祝福に導かれたくありませんか？
Would you like to have your own Liahona? Would you like to always know the right path to follow? Would you like to be led to eternal bliss?
ある意味、私たちは皆、自分だけのリアホナを持っています。私たちは皆、聖霊の賜物を持っています。聖霊の促しに耳を傾け従うなら、永遠の祝福へとまっすぐに導かれるでしょう。
In a way, we all do have our own personal Liahona. We each have the Gift of the Holy Ghost. If we listen and follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost, we will be led on a straight path to eternal bliss.
それは私たち一人一人にかかっています。聖霊の促しに耳を傾け、それに従うこともできますし、自分が思うもっと良い方法、もっと簡単な方法、それほど努力を必要としない方法を選ぶこともできます。聖霊は私たちに正しい道を選ぶよう強制することは決してありません。誤った決断をすれば、その決断の結果に苦しむことになります。
It is up to us individually. We can listen and follow the counsel of the Holy Ghost, or we can decide that we know a better way, or an easier way, or a way that does not require as much work. The Holy Ghost will never force us to choose the right path. If we make poor decisions, we will suffer the consequences of those decisions.
地上での短い人生において、学ぶべき教訓はたくさんあります。重要な教訓を学ぶことは必ずしも容易ではありませんが、学ぶべき教訓はあります。聖霊の促しに従い、それらの重要な教訓を簡単な方法で学ぶという選択肢は常に与えられています。聖霊の促しに従わないことを選んだとしても、教訓を学ぶ必要があります。ただ、困難な方法で学ばなければなりません。それは私たち自身の選択です。
There are many lessons we need to learn during this short life here on earth. Learning important lessons is not always easy, but there are lessons that we do need to learn. We are always given the option to follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost and learn those important lessons in an easy way. If we choose not to follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost, we still need to learn the lessons. We will just have to learn them the hard way. It is our own choice.
私たちは、なぜ聖霊の導きになかなか従えないのか、理解に苦しみます。私は自分の人生で、聖霊の促しよりも良い方法を知っていると思ったときは、常に 100% 間違っていたことを知っています。聖霊に従うと人生がずっと楽になると理解するまで、何年もかかり、多くのつらい経験もしました。聖霊は常に私たちを正しい道へと導いてくれます。
It is hard to understand why we have such a hard time following the promptings of the Holy Ghost. I know that in my life, whenever I thought that I knew a better way than what I was being told, I was wrong 100% of the time. It has taken me many years and many hard experiences to finally learn that life is much easier when we follow the Holy Ghost. He will always lead us to the correct path.
新しい週が始まります。聖霊の静かな声に耳を傾けてみましょう。聖霊の導きを受けられる場所に身を置きましょう。世の雑音を遮断し、代わりに導きに耳を傾けましょう。最も重要なのは、導きを受けたら、言われたことを忠実に実行することです。サタンに騙されたり、欺かれたりしないようにしましょう。聖霊は私たちを永遠の故郷へと直接導いてくれるでしょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s listen for the still small voice of the Holy Ghost. Let’s put ourselves in places that allow the Holy Ghost to prompt us. Let’s tune out the world’s noise and instead listen quietly to our promptings. Most importantly, when we have received a prompting, let’s do exactly what we are told to do. Let’s not allow Satan to trick us or cheat us. The Holy Ghost will lead us directly back to our eternal home.
