Therefore, let every man stand in his own office, and labor in his own calling; and let not the head say unto the feet it hath no need of the feet; for without feet how shall the body be able to stand? Section 84 of the Doctrine and Covenants is a very famous section. It is known as a revelation on the priesthood and contains a number of key instructions for the Church. Most famous are verses 33 to 41. These verses are often referred to as the “oath and covenant of the Priesthood”.

There are also several other important verses in this section. Some of these important verses teach us about the importance of every calling in the Church. This is a key doctrine and one that is important for us to understand.

Sometimes, we think that there are important callings in the ward, like Bishop, or Elders Quorum president, or Relief Society president, and that the other callings in the ward are not important. This is not correct.
主は109節と110節において、すべての召しが重要であることを明確に教えておられます。すべてのアサインメントには意味があります。すべての奉仕の行為が価値を持っています。
The Lord teaches us very clearly in verses 109 and 110 that every calling in the Church is an important calling. Every assignment is important. Every act of service is important.
たとえば、あなたの召しがワードグリーターであって、集会に来る人を迎える役割だとしましょう。「ただ『こんにちは』とあいさつするだけで、それほど重要ではない」と思うかもしれません。
Perhaps your calling is to serve as the Ward Greeter, to welcome people as they come to a meeting. You may think, “well, that is not really very important. I don’t really do anything. I just say Hello to people as they come in”.
しかし、あなたの温かい笑顔とやさしい言葉が、誰かの心の重荷を少し軽くするかもしれません。悩みや疲れを抱えている人の人生に、静かな祝福をもたらすかもしれません。救い主の愛を分かち合うことをいとわなかったあなたの行動が、時にはビショップよりも深く誰かの人生に影響を与えることだってあり得るのです。
In this calling, you have opportunities to bless the life of someone who is burdened down with cares and trials. Maybe your pleasant smile and warm words will help to lift burdens. You may have a greater impact on someone’s life than the Bishop does, simply because you were willing to share the Savior’s love with someone.
あなたの召しが、集会で音楽を指揮することかもしれません。繰り返しになりますが、「まあ、それはそれほど重要ではない。ただ音楽の指揮をするだけで誰にでもできる」と思うかもしれません。
Or perhaps your calling is to lead the music in a meeting. Again, you may think, “well, that is not very important. I just lead the music. Anyone could do that”.
でも、音楽は集会に御霊をもたらします。あなたの指揮によって、人々が御霊を感じる助けとなり、心を救い主に向ける準備が整えられます。その務めを忠実に、喜びを持って奉仕することで、試練の中にいる誰かに深い慰めと励ましを与えるかもしれません。
Music brings a wonderful spirit into our meetings. By leading the music, you are helping people to feel the Spirit of the Lord. You are helping to prepare people’s hearts to receive promptings from the Holy Ghost. As you serve faithfully and cheerfully in this assignment, you may have a great impact on the life of someone who is struggling with trials.
教会でのすべての召しには意味があります。重要でない召しなど一つとしてありません。どの召しにおいても、私たちは他の人の人生を祝福する機会を与えられています。人の重荷を軽くし、救い主の愛を感じられるよう助けることができるのです。
Every calling in the Church is important. There are no unimportant callings. In every calling, we have the opportunity to bless the lives of others. We have the opportunity to lift their burdens. We have the opportunity to help them feel the love of the Savior.
新しい週が始まります。私たち一人ひとりに、誰かに奉仕する機会があることを心に留めましょう。そして、今与えられている召しが、私たちにとって「最も重要な召し」であることを忘れないようにしましょう。元気よく、忠実に、心を込めて奉仕しましょう。私たちの小さな奉仕が、誰かが救い主の愛を感じる助けとなりますように。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember that we all have opportunities to serve others. Let’s remember that the calling that we have right now is the most important calling in the Church for us. Let’s do our best to serve cheerfully and diligently. Let’s make it possible for others to feel the love of our Savior by our small acts of service.
