Doctrine & Covenants 42:38

教義と聖約42章は、1831年2月にオハイオ州カートランドで授かりました。これは38章32節に記された主の約束の成就でした。そこには、主が「オハイオに集まるとき、教会に律法を授けられる」と約束されていました。

Section 42 of the Doctrine & Covenants was received in February of 1831, in Kirtland, Ohio.  This was the fulfilment of a promise, recorded in Section 38, verse 32, that the Lord would give his law to the Church when they assembled in Ohio.

この章には、教会の会員にとって大切な指針がいくつも含まれています。たとえば、29節では「主のすべての戒めを守らなければならない」と教えられ、42節では「怠けてはならない」と命じられています。

This Section contains a number of important instructions pertaining to the members of the Church and explains how the Lord wants things done.  For example, in verse 29, we are told that we must keep all the commandments of the Lord.  And in verse 42, we are commanded not to be idle.  

その中でも特に重要な教えの一つが、38節に記されています。それは、貧しい人や困っている人々への私たちの責任を思い起こさせてくれるものです。

One of the key instructions given in this Section is contained in verse 38.  This is important because it reminds us of our duty to the poor and the needy.  

主は、私たちのどのような奉仕も、主に対して行ったかのように数えられると説明しておられます。

The Lord explains to us that any service we give is counted as if we had done it unto the Lord.

私たちは、好きな人や尊敬する人、あるいは指導的な立場にある人には喜んで奉仕しようとするものです。もし機会があれば、大管長のネルソン大管長や十二使徒、七十人の一員のために何かお手伝いできたら、きっと喜んですることでしょう。

It is always easy to provide service to those we like, or those who are important, or those who are in leadership positions.  Given the opportunity, we would do anything we could do to help President Nelson personally, or any of the Apostles, or any of the Seventy.

しかし、そのような奉仕の機会は、ほとんどの人には訪れません。私たちのだれもネルソン大管長に直接個人的に奉仕する機会などありそうにありません。

But that is not the type of service opportunity that comes to most of us.  It is unlikely that any one of us will ever have an opportunity to provide personal service to directly to President Nelson.  

しかし、主は私たち一人一人に他の人に仕える多くの機会を与えてくださいます。そうした奉仕の機会は、むしろ、へりくだった人々、弱い立場の人々、貧しい人々へのものです。ときには、私たちが「この人に奉仕する必要があるのだろうか？」と考えてしまうような人かもしれません。世の中では軽んじられたり、見過ごされたりする人々かもしれません。

However, the Lord does provide each of us with many opportunities to serve others.  The people we are given an opportunity to serve are the humble people, the weak, the poor.  These are people that we may not think deserve our service or our help.  These are people that the world looks down on.

しかし、主はこの地上での生涯を通して、そのような人々にこそ、最も大きな愛と奉仕を示されました。主は、有名な人や裕福な人、権力のある人々のもとには行かれませんでした。その代わりに、孤独な人、病気の人、貧しい人、重い皮膚病を患う人、社会から締め出された人々を助けられました。主は、私たちが従うべき奉仕の模範を示してくださったのです。

But these are the very people that the Lord, during his mortal ministry, provided the greatest service to.  He did not go to the famous, the rich, or the powerful.  Instead, he helped the lonely, the sick, the poor, the leper, the outcast.  He set the example of service for us to follow.

素晴らしいことに、主は「困っている人々に仕えるとき、それは私に仕えているのと同じである」と約束しておられます。

The great blessing is the Savior has promised us that, as we serve those who are in need, we will be blessed just as if we had done the service for the Lord personally.  

どんな小さな奉仕であっても、それが祝福をもたらします。たとえば、悩んでいる人に優しい言葉をかけること、あまり親しくない人にも明るく挨拶をすること、苦しんでいる人に励ましのメッセージを送ること、これらはすべて、主への奉仕であり、祝福を受けるのです。

As we serve those in need, wherever they are, or whatever their needs, we are really serving our Savior. 

Even the smallest, simplest, and almost insignificant service brings great blessings.  A kind word to someone who is struggling, a pleasant greeting to someone we might not know well, a text of encouragement to someone who is suffering, or any one of hundreds of other small and simple acts of kindness are all acts of service to the Lord.

特別な才能は必要ありません。多くの時間をかける必要もありません。お金がかかるわけでもありません。ただ、心から奉仕したいという思いと、天の御父の子供たちを助けたいという願いがあれば、それで十分なのです。私たち一人ひとりが、毎日できることなのです。

It does not require any special skills.  It does not take a lot of time.  It does not cost any money. All it takes is a willing heart and a desire to serve Heavenly Father by helping his children here on earth.   It is something that each one of us can do, every day.

新しい週が始まります。この一週間、周りの人に奉仕する機会を探してみましょう。たとえ小さなことであっても、人を助ける方法を見つけてみましょう。そして、その小さな親切を通して、私たちは誰に仕えているのかを思い出しましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s look for opportunities to serve those around us.  Let’s look for even small and simple things that we can do to help someone else.  Let’s remember who we are really serving through these small acts of kindness.
