Recently, Elder David A. Bednar expanded on this theme and explained it more fully. He pointed out that we sometimes miss an important part of this concept. He explained that, while Jesus Christ is the rock, we are responsible for building the foundation on top of that rock. It is not enough just to believe in Jesus Christ. We must bind our own foundation to that rock.

In Elder Bednar’s example, he shows the rock upon which we must build, the gospel of Jesus Christ. He also shows us our house. But in between those two things is a critical component. Our house has a foundation. That foundation supports the house and gives it a solid base.
しかし、基礎そのものは地中深く、地表の下にある岩盤まで沈めなければなりません。重要なのは、家を支える基礎が岩盤の上に築かれるだけでなく、その岩盤にしっかりと固定されなければならないということです。基礎と岩盤の間は強くつながれていなければなりません。
However, the foundation itself must be sunk deep into the earth, to the bedrock that is beneath the surface. The critical link is that our foundation, which supports our house, must not only be built upon the rock, it must also be securely anchored to that rock. Strong connections must be made between the foundation and the bedrock.

We anchor our foundation to the rock of the Savior by keeping the commandments. We anchor ourselves to the rock of the Savior by not just reading, but by studying the scriptures. We anchor ourselves to the rock of the Savior by making and keeping sacred covenants.

Any areas of weakness are removed, repaired, or replaced. This grand project is designed to ensure that the Temple will stand forever.

In our own lives, perhaps we need to dig down and examine our foundations. Perhaps we need to evaluate the bolts that anchor our foundation to the Savior. Are there foundation bolts that have rusted or broken? Are there bolts that need to be replaced or strengthened? Are there bolts that have become weak and need to be replaced with new strong bolts?
私たちの証を救い主の岩に固定するボルトが弱いことに気づいたら、今こそ悔い改める時です。今こそ変化を起こし、新しい強いボルトを打ち込む時です。今こそ行動を起こし、自分自身の土台が可能な限り強固なものとなるようにする時です。
If we find that there are weak bolts anchoring our testimonies to the rock of the Savior, now is the time to repent. Now is the time to make changes and put in new strong bolts. Now is the time for us to take action and ensure that our own foundation will be as strong as possible.
新しい週が始まります。自分自身の土台と、救い主に自分を固定しているボルトを評価する時間を取ってみましょう。自分自身、自分の行動、自分の弱点、自分の強みを素直に吟味してみましょう。錆びたり、曲がったり、弱くなったりしたアンカーボルトは取り除きましょう。悔い改め、戒めをより完全に守り、イエス・キリストの弟子としてより良い模範となることで、アンカーボルトを交換しましょう。イエス・キリストの福音という唯一の確かな岩にしっかりと固定された、強くて安全な土台を築きましょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s spend some time evaluating our own foundation and the bolts that anchor us to the Savior. Let’s honestly examine ourselves, our actions, our weaknesses, and our strengths. Let’s remove those anchor bolts that have become rusted, bent, or weak. Let’s replace them by repenting, by keeping the commandments more fully, by becoming better examples of a disciple of Jesus Christ. Let’s build a strong and secure foundation, firmly anchored to the one sure rock, the gospel of Jesus Christ.
