And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be unto all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:8-11
今週、私たちはこの地上で起こった最も偉大な出来事の始まりを祝います。何世紀も人々が待ち望んだ救い主の教導の業が、ついにこの地上で始まる時が来たのです。この喜ばしい知らせは、天使たちや預言者たちによって、そして天に起きた大いなるしるしと不思議によって、世界中の人々に告げられました。
This week, we celebrate the beginning of the greatest event ever to happen on this earth. After centuries of waiting, the time had finally come for the earthly ministry of the Savior to begin. This glad news was announced by angels, and by prophets, and by great signs and wonders in the heavens, to people all around the world.
はるか東のどこかで、賢者たちに救い主の誕生が告げられました。彼らが主を礼拝するためにベツレヘムまでの旅は二年近くかかりました。
Somewhere far to the east, wise men were told of the birth of the Savior. It took them almost two years to travel to Bethlehem to worship the Lord.
ニーファイ人とレーマン人には、天における大きな不思議によって救い主の来臨が告げられました。レーマン人の預言者サムエルが予言していたように暗闇のない日が起こり、これは救い主の誕生のしるしでした。
To the Nephites and Lamanites, great wonders in the heavens announced the coming of the Savior. There was a day and a night and a day with no darkness. As the Lamanite prophet Samuel had foretold, this was the sign of the birth of the Savior.
ベツレヘムでは、子羊が生まれる春の野原で羊の群れを守っていた謙虚な羊飼いたちに、天使たちが輝かしい知らせを伝えました。素晴らしい象徴として、世の救い主である神の子羊もまた、新しい子羊の季節にこの世に誕生したのです。
In Bethlehem itself, angels brought the glorious news to humble shepherds who were guarding their flocks out in the fields during the spring when the new lambs were born. With wonderful symbolism, the Lamb of God, the Savior of the World, also came into the world during the season of the new lambs.
長く待ち望まれた極めて重要な救い主の教導の業が始まろうとしていました。それは質素な馬小屋から始まりましたが、その務めは、永遠に続く最も重要な出来事で頂点に達しました。イエス・キリストの贖罪は、この世で知られている中で最も重要な出来事です。
The long awaited and vitally important ministry of the Savior was about to begin. While it started in a humble stable, that ministry culminated in the most important event in all of eternity. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the most significant event the world has ever known.

It is only through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that we have hope of eternal life. It is only through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that we can repent of our sins. It is only through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that we can live with our families for all eternity.
良いもの、喜びをもたらすもの、希望をもたらすものはすべて、私たちの罪に対する偉大な贖いの結果としてもたらされます。イエス・キリストは世の救い主であり、神の小羊であり、平和の君です。
Everything that is good, everything that brings joy, everything that brings hope, comes as a result of that great Atonement for our sins. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World, the Lamb of God, the Prince of Peace.
今年のクリスマスを祝う時、私たちは何を祝っているのか思い起こしてみましょう。私たちはなぜ祝うのか思い起こしてみましょう。飾り付けやツリー、プレゼントよりも、救い主の贖罪に目を向けましょう。贈り物をする時、イエス・キリストが私たちに最も大切なクリスマス・プレゼント、つまり家族とともに生きる永遠の命という贈り物を与えてくださったことを忘れないようにしましょう。
As we celebrate the Christmas season this year, let’s remember what we are celebrating. Let’s remember why we are celebrating. Let’s remember to look beyond the decorations, the trees, the presents, and focus on the Atonement of our Savior. While giving gifts, let’s remember that it is Jesus Christ who gave us the most important Christmas gift ever, the gift of eternal life with our families.
