モーセはきて、主のすべての言葉と、すべてのおきてとを民に告げた。民はみな同音に答えて言った、「わたしたちは主の仰せられた言葉を皆、行います」。出エジプト記２４：３

And Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgements: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said will we do.  Exodus 24:3

After the children of Israel had been freed from bondage in Egypt, the Lord was ready to give them great blessings.  The Lord instructed Moses to teach the people and to prepare them to receive more knowledge.

イスラエルの民がエジプトで束縛から解放された後、主は彼らに大きな祝福を与えようとされていました。主は、民がより多くの知識を受ける備えができるよう、モーセに指示されました。

The Lord talked with Moses and gave him instructions.  The Lord taught Moses the things that the children of Israel needed to learn.  Because they had been slaves for hundreds of years, the people were not used to thinking for themselves.  They needed very strict instructions about everything.

主はモーセに語り、指示を与えられました。主はモーセにイスラエルの民が学ぶべきことを教えられました。彼らは何百年もの間奴隷であったので、人々は自分で考えることに慣れていませんでした。彼らはすべてについて非常に厳格な指示を必要としていました。

The Lord gave Moses very detailed instructions about how to offer sacrifices, about how to behave, about how to live with others in peace.  These were very basic rules, but they came with serious penalties.  

主はモーセに、犠牲をささげる方法、振る舞う方法、他の人と平和に暮らす方法について、非常に詳細な指示を与えられました。これらは非常に基本的なルールでしたが、それには重い罰が伴いました。

For example, the people were taught to keep the Sabbath Day holy.  The penalty for violating that law was death.

たとえば、人々は安息日を聖く保つように教えられました。その律法に背いたことに対する罰は死でした。

Like king Benjamin in the Book of Mormon, the prophet Moses taught his people about the gospel.  He tried to prepare their hearts to receive great blessings.  

モルモン書のベニヤミン王のように、預言者モーセは民に福音を教えました。大きな祝福を受けるために彼らの心を備えようとしました。

Just like the Nephites who were taught by king Benjamin, the children of Israel promised to obey the word of the Lord.  They promised to everything that the Lord told them to do.

ベニヤミン王によって教えられたニーファイ人のように、イスラエルの民は主の言葉に従うことを約束しました。彼らは主が言われたことすべてに従うと約束しました。

Unfortunately, unlike the Nephites, the children of Israel did not keep their promise.  It was only a short time after making that promise that the people rebelled against the Lord.  They rejected what had been taught.  While Moses was on the top of the mountain talking with the Lord, the people made a golden calf, an idol, to worship.

残念ながら、ニーファイ人とは異なり、イスラエルの民は約束を守りませんでした。民はほんのわずかの期間約束を守っただけで、すぐに主に反抗しました。彼らは教えられたことを拒否しました。モーセが山の頂上で主とまみえている間、人々は金の子牛を作り、偶像を崇拝しました。

Because of their rebellion, the Lord took away the blessings that had been promised to them.  They were not allowed to have the priesthood or the ordinances of the priesthood.  Only the Aaronic priesthood was to remain with them.  They were condemned to remain in the wilderness until all those who had come out of Egypt died. 

彼らの背きのために、主は約束された祝福を取り去られました。彼らは神権や神権の儀式を持つことを許されませんでした。アロン神権だけが彼らに残されました。彼らは、エジプトから出てきたすべての人々が死ぬまで、荒野にとどまるよう戒められました。

Today, for each of us, the question still is, “will we do all the words that the Lord hath said”?  Are we going to be strong, like the Nephites of king Benjamin, or are we going to be rebellious, like the children of Israel?  Are we on the Lord’s side, or on the side of evil?

今日、私たち一人一人にとっての問題は「主の仰せられた言葉を皆、行うか」ということです。ベニヤミン王のニーファイ人のように強いですか、それともイスラエルの民のように反抗しますか？私たちは主の側にいますか、それとも悪の側にいますか？

Each one of us needs to make that decision in our own hearts.  The great blessing is, even if we have been rebellious in the past, we can repent.  We can decide to keep all the commandments.  We can decide to be like the Nephites.  We can decide to be worthy of the blessings the Lord has for us.

私たちは自身の心の中でその決定を下す必要があります。大きな祝福は、過去に背いたとしても、悔い改めることができるということです。すべての戒めを守ると決めることができます。ニーファイ人のようになることを決めることができます。主が私たちに与えてくださる祝福にふさわしくあると決めることができます。

As we go through this next week, let’s ponder in our own minds whether we will be on the Lord’s side.  Let’s decide to always stay on the Lord’s side, to keep his commandments, and to do his will.  Let’s decide to remain firm and unmovable in following the Lord.  Let’s be great examples of a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

新しい週が始まります。私たちが主の側にいるのかどうかを考えながら過ごしましょう。常に主の側にとどまり、主の戒めを守り、主の御心を行うことを決心しましょう。主に従うことにおいて、確固として揺るがないことを決心しましょう。イエス・キリストの真の弟子の素晴らしい模範となりましょう。
