And it was to this same Melchizedek to whom Abraham paid tithes; yea, even our father Abraham paid tithes of one-tenth of all he possessed. Alma 13:15
この聖句の中でアルマは、什分の一の律法は新しいものではなく、むしろ、古代からの戒めだったことを教えています。
In this scripture, Alma teaches us that the Law of Tithing is not something new. Rather, it has been a commandment since ancient times.
アブラハムが戦いから戻り、メルキゼデクに什分の一を納めたことが旧約聖書に記録されています。アブラハムは什分の一の律法が新しい戒めであることについては何も言っていないので、それをすでに知っていたと思われます。アブラハムは神の預言者に会うと、すぐに什分の一を納めています。
The account of Abraham returning from the battle of the kings, and paying his tithing to Melchizedek is recorded in the Old Testament. Abraham apparently knew of the Law of Tithing already, since he does not say anything about it being a new commandment. When he meets a prophet of God, Abraham immediately pays his tithing.
現代においても、什分の一の律法は戒めです。この戒めは預言者ジョセフ・スミスに与えられ、教義と聖約の第119章に記録されています。
In our day, the Law of Tithing is still a commandment. This commandment was given to the Prophet Joseph Smith and is recorded in Section 119 of the Doctrine and Covenants.

Unlike the complicated tax laws of many countries, the Lord’s Law of Tithing is very simple. It is explained in just seven verses. It is simple enough for a Primary child to understand completely. The Primary child knows that when you earn 10 pennies, you give one penny back to the Lord. There is nothing complicated about it, nothing that is hard to understand.

For we adults, the problem is that it is no longer just pennies, but dollars, hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Satan comes and tempts us by saying “that is a lot of money. Think of all the things that you could buy with that money. Your family needs that money more than the Lord does”. This is one of Satan’s most effective tricks.
アルマ書の中で、ゼーズロムはアルマとアミュレクに大金を差し出し、誘惑しようとしました。彼は、大金は彼らにとって非常に魅力的であると考えました。しかし、アルマはゼーズロムに、主の祝福に比べればお金には何の価値もないと教えました。ある人は、什分の一をお金で納めるのではないと言いました。信仰をもって什分の一を納めるのです。
In the Book of Alma, Zeezrom tried to tempt Alma and Amulek by offering them a large sum of money. He thought that a large sum of money would be very tempting to them. However, Alma taught Zeezrom that money has no value compared to the blessings of the Lord. Someone once said that you do not pay tithing with money. You pay tithing with faith.
お金は私たちの生活に必要なものですが、それが最も重要なものであってはなりません。悲しいことに、什分の一の律法に従わないために神殿の祝福を受けられない教会員が、他の戒めよりも多くなっています。
Money is necessary for our lives, but it should not be the most important thing. Sadly, more members of the Church are prevented from receiving the blessings of the Temple due to their failure to obey the Law of Tithing than by any other commandment.
驚くべきことに、もし人々が正直に什分の一を納めることによってもたらされる大きな祝福を本当に理解していれば、教会員でなくても什分の一を納めたいと思うことでしょう。主は什分の一を納める人々に「天の窓」が開かれると約束されました。
The amazing thing is, that if people really understood the great blessings that come from paying an honest tithe, even non-members of the Church would want to pay their tithing. The Lord has promised that “the windows of Heaven” will be opened to those who pay their tithing.
この永遠の律法に従うことによってもたらされる祝福は、一時的なものや経済的なものだけに限定されません。什分の一の律法から得られる祝福は、物質的なものと霊的なものの両方です。什分の一を納めることによって、私たちはこの律法に従う人々に約束されているすべての祝福を主が私たちに送ってくださるようになります。
The blessings that come from obedience to this eternal law are not limited to just temporal things or just to financial things. The blessings that come from the Law of Tithing are both temporal and spiritual. By paying our tithing, we allow the Lord to send us all of the blessings that have been promised to those who obey this law.
主は預言者マラキを通して、民に什分の一を納め、その後にやってくる祝福を見るよう求められました。「これをもってわたしを試みなさい」と主は言われました。「わたしが天の窓を開いて、あふるる恵みを、あなたがたに注ぐか否かを見なさい」と。
Through his prophet Malachi, the Lord challenged the people to pay their tithing and to see the blessings that would come. “Prove me now herewith”, the Lord said. “I will send you a blessing that there shall not be room to receive it”.
そのような祝福が欲しいですか？霊的祝福と物質的祝福の両方が欲しいですか？天の窓を開けてもらいたいですか？
Do you want that kind of blessing? Do you want both spiritual and temporal blessings? Do you want to have the windows of Heaven opened to you?
什分の一を納めてください。それはとても簡単なことです。
Pay your tithing. It is that simple.
新しい週が始まります。大いなる什分の一の律法を思い起こしてみましょう。この律法に従えば、天の窓を開けることができるということを覚えておきましょう。これは永遠の律法であり、私たちが主を愛し、主のすべての戒めを喜んで守ることを主に示すための律法であることを忘れないようにしましょう。そうすれば、約束されているすべての祝福を享受できるのです。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember the great Law of Tithing. Let’s remember that we can open the windows of Heaven if we obey this law. Let’s remember that this is an eternal law, a law that allows us to show the Lord that we love him and are willing to keep all his commandments. If we do so, we will receive all of the blessings promised to us.
