Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me. 3 Nephi 9:14
第三ニーファイに入ると、モルモン書の最も重要な部分、つまり救い主がニーファイ人を訪れた記述が見つかります。この出来事が救い主の贖罪と復活からどのくらい経ってから起こったのかは分かりませんが、おそらく数か月後のことだったようです。十字架刑の時に起こった恐ろしい破壊は、34年目最初の月の4日目に始まりました。救い主の来臨は34年目の終わりに起こりました。
As we move into 3 Nephi, we come to the most important part of the Book of Mormon, the account of the Savior’s visit to the Nephites. We don’t know how long after the Atonement and Resurrection of the Savior this event took place, but it apparently was several months later. The great and terrible destructions that took place at the time of the crucifixion began on the 4th day of the first month of the 34th year. The visit of the Savior took place at the end of the 34th year.
救い主の来臨の前、恐ろしい嵐と地震が止み、人々は主の声が彼らに語りかけられるのを聞きました。主は人々に、それらの恐ろしい破壊が起こったのは人々の邪悪さと不義のためであると告げられました。
Prior to the visit of the Savior, when the terrible storms and earthquakes ceased, the people heard the voice of the Lord speaking to them. The people were told by the Lord that it was because of the wickedness and iniquity of the people that those terrible destructions had come.
主は、命を助けられた人々に、彼らが救われたのは滅ぼされた人々よりも義人であったからであり、彼らに悔い改めるように命じられ、悔い改めれば永遠の命が得られると告げられました。
The Lord told the people who were spared that they were spared because they were more righteous than those who were destroyed and commanded them to repent. The people were told that if they repented, they would have eternal life.

In this scripture, we are taught several things. First of all, it says “if you will come unto me”. The important thing to learn here is that we have a choice. We are not forced to come unto Christ. It must be our own choice. The most fundamental principle of the gospel is free agency. We are always free to choose good or to choose evil.
次に、福音のすべてに言えることですが、約束された祝福を受けたいなら行動する必要があります。キリストのもとに来るには行動する必要があります。悔い改める必要があります。戒めを守る必要があります。救い主について学ぶ必要があります。
Next, as with everything in the gospel, we are required to take action if we want to receive the promised blessings. We need to take action to come unto Christ. We need to repent. We need to keep the commandments. We need to learn about the Savior.
私たちはまた，救い主が私たちの帰りをいつも待っておられることも学びます。救い主はだれも拒まれません。主のもとに来る人を制限されることはありません。主の慈悲の腕はすべての人に伸ばされています。
We also learn that the Savior is always waiting for us to return. He does not reject anyone. He does not set limits on who can come unto him. His arms of mercy are extended to everyone.
悔い改めて主のもとに戻ることができないほど罪を犯した人はいません。モルモン書に登場する宣教師の中で最も偉大な人物となったモーサヤの息子たちでさえ、若い頃は最も邪悪な罪人であったと書かれています。
No one has sinned so much that they cannot repent and return to the Lord. Even the sons of Mosiah, who became some of the greatest of all the missionaries in the Book of Mormon, were describing as being the very vilest of sinners in their younger days.
最後に、悔い改めて主のもとに戻ることを選ぶ人は祝福を受けると教えられています。最も重要なことは、悔い改めてキリストのもとに戻ることを選ぶ人には永遠の命が約束されているということです。これがすべての祝福の中で最も偉大なものであると教えられています。
Finally, we are taught that those who choose to repent and to return to the Lord will be blessed. Most importantly, those who choose to repent and come unto Christ are promised eternal life. We are told that this is the greatest of all blessings.
新しい週が始まります。この聖句で教えられていることについて考えてみましょう。自分の生活を評価し、キリストのもとに行くために最善を尽くしているかどうか自己評価してみましょう。悔い改め、戒めを守り、イエス・キリストのより良い弟子となるよう、さらに努力しましょう。救い主がご自分のもとに来る者に約束してくださった永遠の命の祝福を受けるにふさわしい者になりましょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s take some time to think about the things we are taught in this scripture. Let’s evaluate our own lives and see if we are doing our best to come unto Christ. Let’s make a greater effort to repent, to keep the commandments, and to be better disciples of Jesus Christ. Let’s be worthy to receive the blessings of eternal life that the Savior has promised to those who come unto him.
