And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.  And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things. Moroni 10:4-5

モルモン書の学習も終わりが近づきましたが、ここでは預言者モロナイが非常に重要なメッセージを教えています。世界が真理を求めていますが、モロナイは真理を見つけ、知る方法を簡単な言葉で説明しています。

As we come to the final pages of the Book of Mormon, the prophet Moroni gives us a very important message.  In a world seeking everywhere for truth, Moroni explains in simple words how we can find and know truth.

これらの聖句は、おそらくモルモン書の中で最もよく知られている聖句のひとつでしょう。重要な原則を教えているからです。モロナイは、モルモン書の真実性を自分で学ぶ義務があると教えています。

These verses are perhaps some of the best known verses in the Book of Mormon.  They are also some of the most important, for they teach us an important principle.  Moroni teaches us that we have a duty to learn for ourselves the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.

10章3節で、モロナイはモルモン書の証を受けるために私たちが何をしなければならないかを説明しています。福音の他の事柄と同様に、知識や祝福や教えを望むなら、行動を起こす必要があります。司令官モロナイがパホーランに言ったように、私たちはただ考えもせずに座って、主が私たちを救ってくれることを期待することはできません。

In verse 3 of Chapter 10, Moroni explains what we must do to prepare ourselves to receive a testimony of the Book of Mormon.  As with all things in the gospel, if we desire knowledge or blessing or instruction, we need to take action.  As Captain Moroni said to Pahoran, we cannot just sit in a thoughtless stupor on our thrones and expect the Lord to save us.

まず最初にすべきことは、モルモン書を読むことです。モルモン書の内容を知るまでは、その真実性について証を得ることはできません。知りたいと心からの望みをもってモルモン書を読むことが第一歩です。

The first thing we need to do is to read the Book of Mormon.  We cannot obtain a testimony of its truthfulness until we know what it contains.  Reading the Book of Mormon with a sincere desire to know is the first step.

次に、アダムの時代から主が天父の子供たちに与えてこられた偉大な祝福を思い起こす必要があるとモロナイは教えています。これらのことを思い起こすことで、天父とその御子イエス・キリストに対する信仰が深まります。

Second, we are taught by Moroni that we need to remember the great blessings the Lord has given to his sons and daughters since the days of Adam.  As we remember these things, we develop greater faith in our Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ.

そして、読んだことについて熟考する必要があります。熟考するということは、何かを素早く見直すこと以上の意味があります。熟考するということは、深く考えたり、注意深く研究したりすることを意味します。

And then, we need to ponder over the things that we have read.  To ponder means much more than to quickly review something.  To ponder means to think deeply or to study carefully.

心の準備ができたら、次にこれらのことが真実かどうかを天父に尋ねなければならないとモロナイは教えています。

Having prepared ourselves, Moroni says we must then ask Heavenly Father if these things are true.  

読む、覚える、熟考する、尋ねる。これらはすべて行動を表す動詞であり、求める祝福を受けたいなら行動を起こす義務があることを思い起こさせてくれます。

Read, remember, ponder, ask.  These are all action verbs, reminding us that we have a duty to take action if we want to receive the blessings we seek.

しかし、これらをすべて行っても、私たちにはまだ求められていることがあります。モロナイは、真実を知りたいという心から望まなければならないと説明しています。これらのことが真実かどうかどうかを知りたいと心から願い、尋ねなければなりません。最も重要なことは、救い主イエス・キリストを信じて尋ねなければならないということです。

Even with all that, though, there is still more required of us.  Moroni explains that we must be sincere in our desire to know the truth.  We must ask with a real intent to know if these things are true.  Most importantly, we must ask with faith in our Savior Jesus Christ.

これらの教えにすべて従うなら、モルモン書の真実性について証を得ることができるとモロナイは約束しています。聖霊がこれらのことが真実であると証してくださるのです。

If we follow all of these instructions, Moroni promises us that we will be able to receive a testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.  He teaches us that the Holy Ghost will testify to us that these things are true.  

そして、預言者モロナイが説明したこの規範に従うことで、聖霊はすべてのことの真理を私たちに教えてくれるのです。すべてのことの真理を学ぶことは、私たち個人の義務です。行動を起こし、モロナイが教えた原則を用いることで、そうすることができます。

And, by following this pattern as explained by the prophet Moroni, the Holy Ghost will be able to teach us the truthfulness of all things.  It is our individual duty to learn the truthfulness of all things.  We can do so by taking action and by using the principles taught by Moroni.

新しい週が始まります。モルモン書が神の言葉であることを自分自身で学ぶ義務が私たちにあることを忘れないようにしましょう。真理について知るために行動を起こす責任があることを忘れないようにしましょう。聖霊の力を通して、モルモン書の証を受けられるように最善を尽くしましょう。ネルソン大管長の勧告に従ってモルモン書を毎日読むことにより，その証を健全に保ち続けましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that we each have a duty to learn for ourselves that the Book of Mormon is the word of God.  Let’s remember that we have a responsibility to take action to learn about truth.  Let’s do our best to receive a testimony of the Book of Mormon, through the power of the Holy Ghost.  Let’s keep that testimony active by following the counsel of President Nelson to read from the Book of Mormon every day.
