それゆえ、今や人は皆、自分の義務を学び、任命されている職務をまったく勤勉に遂行するようにしなさい。怠惰な者は、その職にいるにふさわしい者と見なされない。また、自分の義務を学ばず、認められるに足る者であることを示さない者は、その職にいるにふさわしい者と見なされない。まことにそのとおりである。教義と聖約１０７:９９−１００
Wherefore, now let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, with all diligence. He that is slothful shall not be counted worthy to stand, and he that learns not his duty and shows himself not approved shall not be counted worthy to stand. Doctrine & Covenants 107:99-100
教義と聖約107章には、神権に関する非常に重要な啓示が記されています。そこではメルキゼデク神権の力と権能について教えられています。
Section 107 of the Doctrine and Covenants contains a great and important revelation on the priesthood. It teaches us about the power and authority of the Melchizedek priesthood.
メルキゼデク神権は「教会におけるすべての霊的な祝福の鍵を持つ」と教えられています。また「教会のあらゆる職を管理する力と権能を持つ」とも教えられています。
We are taught that the Melchizedek priesthood “holds the keys of all spiritual blessings of the Church”. We are also taught that the Melchizedek priesthood “has power and authority over all the offices in the Church”.
さらに、アロン神権の力と権能についても教えられています。アロン神権は「大神権」であるメルキゼデク神権に付随するものとして「小神権」と呼ばれます。そして、聖餐の準備と祝福、バプテスマの執行など、教会における外面的な儀式を執り行う権能を持っています。
We are also taught about the power and authority of the Aaronic priesthood. The Aaronic priesthood is the “lesser priesthood” because it is an appendage to the “greater” or Melchizedek priesthood. The Aaronic priesthood has authority to administer the outward ordinances of the Church, such as preparing and blessing the sacrament and performing baptisms.
また、大神権の会長会には、教会のすべての職務を執行する権利があると教えられています。現在、私たちはこの大神権の会長会を「大管長会」と呼んでいます。
We are taught that the Presidency of the High Priesthood has the right to officiate in all the offices of the Church. Today, the Presidency of the High Priesthood is referred to as the First Presidency.
さらにビショップの義務と権能について指示が与えられています。だれがビショップとして奉仕できるのか、そしてビショップはワードのアロン神権の会長であると教えられています。
Further instructions are given about the duties and authority of a bishop. We are taught who can serve as a bishop and that the bishop is the president of the Aaronic priesthood in his ward.
神権定員会と、七十人、高等評議会、そして祝福師についても教えられています。
We are taught about priesthood quorums, about the Seventy, about the high council, and about patriarchs.
最後に、この啓示のまとめとして、また教会員一人ひとりへの大切な勧めとして、主は私たちに自分の務めを学び、与えられた務めを勤勉に果たすよう命じておられます。
Finally, as a summary to this revelation, and as an important instruction to every member of the Church, the Lord commands us to learn our duty and to act with all diligence in our assignment.
この戒めは、神権を持つものだけに限られるものではありません。教会に属するすべての男性、女性、子供にまで及びます。私たちは皆、自分の務めを学ぶよう命じられています。行動するよう命じられています。そして、勤勉に行動するよう命じられています。
This commandment is not limited only to those who hold offices in the priesthood. It applies to every man, woman, and child in the Church. We are all commanded to learn our duty. We are commanded to act. We are commanded to act with diligence.
怠惰であれば、私たちは「その職にいるにふさわしい者と見なされない」でしょう。義務を学ばなければ、私たちは「その職にいるにふさわしい者と見なされない」でしょう。認めらるものでなければ、私たちは「その職にいるにふさわしい者と見なされない」でしょう。
If we are lazy, we shall “not be counted worthy to stand”. If we do not learn our duty, we shall “not be counted worthy to stand”. If we do not show ourselves approved, we shall “not be counted worthy to stand”.
私たち一人一人にとって、自分の義務を学ぶために最善を尽くすことは非常に重要です。自分の義務を学び、任命されている職務を果たすために最善を尽くさなければなりません。私たちはただ行動するだけではいけません。勤勉に務めなければなりません。それは、与えられたどんなアサイメントにおいても最善を尽くすことを意味します。
It is very important for each of us that we do our best to learn our duty. We must do our best to learn our duty and then to act in our assignment. We must do more than just act. We must act with diligence. That means to do our very best in whatever assignment we are given.
自分の義務を学ぶために全力を尽くしましょう。行動するために、勤勉に務めるために、そそして「その職にとどまるにふさわしい者」と見なされるように、最善を尽くしましょう。
Let’s all do our best to learn our duty. Let’s do our best to act. Let’s do our best to act with diligence. Let’s do our best to be counted worthy to stand.
