Do ye not remember the things which the Lord hath said? If ye will not harden your hearts, and ask me in faith, believing that ye shall receive, with diligence in keeping my commandments, surely these things shall be made known unto you.  1 Nephi 15:11

In this scripture, Nephi gives us a very clear explanation of how to receive answers to prayers.  It is simple, easy, and available to everyone.

ニーファイは主からの指示と勧告を受けるために従うべき４つの原則を教えています。

Nephi teaches us four principles that we need to follow in order to receive direction and counsel from the Lord.

まず、心をかたくなにしないことです。心をかたくなにするということは、主の預言者や使徒たちの教えを疑うことを意味します。それは、私たちが何をすべきかについて主よりもよく知っていると考えることを意味します。それは、私たちが聖霊の促しを拒み、代わりに自分自身の道を選択することを意味します。心をかたくなにすると、幸せになるために必要な祝福や導きを受けることができなくなります。

First, we must not harden our hearts. Hardening your heart means to doubt the teachings of the Lord’s prophets and apostles.  It means to think that we know better than the Lord does about what we should do.  It means that we reject the promptings of the Holy Ghost and choose our own path instead.  If we harden our hearts, we cannot receive the blessings and guidance we need to be happy.

第二に、信仰をもって指示を求める必要があります。何への信仰でしょうか？私たちの主イエス・キリストへの信仰です。私たちはイエスが私たちの救い主であり、救い主であるという信仰を持たなければなりません。私たちは神が私たちの罪を償ってくださったという信仰を持たなければなりません。私たちは主の贖罪を通して自分の罪を悔い改めることができるという信仰を持たなければなりません。

Second, we need to ask for direction with faith.  Faith in what?  Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.  We must have faith that he is our Savior and Redeemer.  We must have faith that he atoned for our sins.  We must have faith that through his Atonement, we can repent of our sins.

第三に、答えが得られると信じなければなりません。これは難しい場合もあります。人間である私たちは常に何かをすぐに手に入れたがります。私たちはあらゆることに対して即座に答えを求めます。今日のテクノロジーはこの欲求を満たし、ほとんどすべてのことに対する答えをわずか数秒で見つけることができるようになりました。

Third, we must believe that we will receive an answer.  This can be hard sometimes.  Being humans, we always want things immediately.  We want instant answers to everything.  Today’s technology feeds this desire, giving us the ability to find out the answer to almost anything in just seconds.

That is not the way the Lord works.  The Lord’s prophets and apostles have repeatedly taught us that if we keep the commandments, we will receive the promised blessings.  That is a sure fact.  However, they remind us that the Lord does not operate on the same time schedule as we do.   His timing is not our timing.  Sometimes answers to prayers do come right away.  We are always very grateful when that happens.  

しかし時には、望む答えが数日、数週間、数か月、さらには数年も得られないこともあります。預言者と使徒は「主のしかるべき時に」という言葉を使います。これは、主は必ず私たちの祈りに答えてくださいますが、その答えのタイミングは主次第であることを思い起こさせています。たとえ長い時間がかかったとしても、必要な指示や勧告が得られると信じる必要があります。

Sometimes, however, the desired answer may not come for days, weeks, months, or even years.  The prophets and apostles use the phrase “in the due time of the Lord”.  This is to remind us that, while the Lord will certainly answer our prayers, the timing of that answer is up to the Lord.  We need to believe that we will receive the direction and counsel we need, even if it takes a long time.

第四に、最も重要なことは、私たちが自分の役割を果たさなければならないということです。私たちは主が与えられた戒めを守らなければなりません。私たちが戒めを守らず、自分の役割を果たさなければ、主は私たちに必要な指示や祝福を与えることができません。主は私たちが完璧であることを期待しておられませんが、与えられた環境や状況の中で最善を尽くすことを期待されています。私たちが最善を尽くしているなら、主は私たちの祈りに答えて祝福してくださるでしょう。

Fourth, most importantly, we must do our part.  We must keep the commandments that the Lord has given us.  If we do not keep the commandments, if we do not do our part, the Lord is not able to give us the direction or blessings that we need.  The Lord does not expect us to be perfect, but he does expect us to do our best in our given circumstances and situation.  If we are doing our best, the Lord will be able to bless us with answers to our prayers.

Do you need direction in your life?  Do you need guidance from the Lord?  Do you need blessings?  Following these four simple steps as taught by Nephi will help us receive direction, guidance, and blessings.  It is that simple.

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the four simple steps that Nephi taught us.  Let’s prepare ourselves to receive the counsel and blessings that we need each day.  Let’s not harden our hearts.  Let’s ask in faith.  Let’s believe that the Lord will answer our prayers.  Let’s keep the commandments to that the Lord will be able to bless us.
