さて、戒めは次のとおりである。地の果てに至るすべての者よ、悔い改めて、わたしのもとにきて、わたしの名によってバプテスマを受けなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたは聖霊を受けて聖められ、終わりの日にわたしの前に染みのない状態で立てるであろう。　第三ニーファイ２７：２０

Now this is the commandment: Repent, all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me and be baptized in my name, that ye may be sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost, that ye may stand spotless before me at the last day.  3 Nephi 27:20

救い主がニーファイ人を訪れた記録の終わりで、弟子たちは救い主に教会を何と呼ぶべきか尋ねました。救い主は、真の教会は主の名で呼ばれなければならないこと、また教会に加わる者は皆キリストの名を受けなければならないことを弟子たちに教えられました。

At the end of the record of the Savior’s visits to the Nephites, the disciples ask the Savior what they should call the Church.  The Savior teaches them that the true Church must be called in his name and that all who join the Church must take upon themselves the name of Christ.

それから救い主は、御自身の使命が何であったかを彼らに思い起こさせました。それは、すべてのことにおいて御父の御心を行うためにこの世に来たということです。その使命は、悔い改める人々が救われるように、全人類のために偉大な贖いの犠牲を払うことでした。

The Savior then reminds them of what his mission was, that he came into the world to do the will of the Father in all things.  His mission was to perform the great Atoning Sacrifice for all mankind, that those who repent should be saved.

それから、私たちを含めすべての人に、悔い改めてイエス・キリストの名によってバプテスマを受けるようにという明確な戒めを与えてくださいました。その戒めを守るなら、聖霊の賜物を受けることができます。聖霊の賜物があれば、すべてのことにおいて教えと導きと助けを受けれるのです。

He then gives everyone, including ourselves, a clear commandment to repent and to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.  If we keep this commandment, we will be able to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  If we have the gift of the Holy Ghost, we will be taught and guided and helped in all things.

しかし、悔い改めてバプテスマを受けるだけでは十分ではないことも教えられました。救いは一つの出来事で受けれるものではありません。16節で主は、最後まで耐え忍ぶ者だけが神の前に罪のない者とされる、と教えておられます。

But we are also taught that it is not enough just to repent and be baptized.  Salvation does not come from a single event.  In verse 16, the Lord teaches us that it is only those who endure to the end that will be held guiltless before God.

最後まで堪え忍ぶという戒めは、すべての戒めの中で最も大切なものです。たとえ他​​のすべてのこと、つまり信仰を持ち、悔い改め、バプテスマを受け、聖霊の賜物を受けたとしても、最後まで堪え忍ばなければ何の意味もありません。

The commandment to endure to the end is the most important of all the commandments.  Even if we do everything else, if we have faith, if we repent, if we are baptized, if we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, it means nothing unless we endure to the end.

最後まで堪え忍ぶとはどういう意味でしょうか。それはネルソン大管長が教えたように、聖約の道にしっかりととどまらなければならないという意味です。第二ニーファイ31章でニーファイは，同じ原則を教え、キリストを確固として信じて前進し、最後まで堪え忍ばなければならないと述べています。

What does it mean to endure to the end?  It means that we must stay firmly on the covenant path, as President Nelson has taught us.  In 2 Nephi 31, Nephi teaches us this same principle, saying that we must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ and endure to the end.

聖約の道にとどまる、つまり最後まで堪え忍ぶということは、毎週日曜日の集会に出席することを意味します。また、ふさわしい状態で聖餐を受けることを意味します。さらに、毎日罪を悔い改めることを意味します。

Staying on the covenant path, or enduring to the end, means that we attend our Sunday meetings each week.  It means that we worthily partake of the sacrament.  It means that we repent of our sins each day.

最後まで堪え忍ぶということは、試練や困難を乗り越えることを意味します。私たちは試練を受けるためにこの地上に来ました。成長し、より強い信仰を得るためには、こうした試練を経験する必要があります。私たちは天父を愛し、いつも戒めを守ることを天父に示す必要があります。

Enduring to the end means going through trials and hardships.  We came to this earth to be tested.  We need to experience these trials in order to grow and to gain greater faith.  We need to show Heavenly Father that we love him and will always keep his commandments.

最後まで耐え忍ぶということは、周りの人々に奉仕するということです。それは、困難な時期を過ごしている人々の重荷を軽くするのを助けるということです。それは、たとえ都合が悪くても、あるいは他のことで忙しいときでも、助けや援助を与えるということです。

Enduring to the end means ministering to those around us.  It means helping to lift the burdens of those who are going through difficult times.  It means providing help and assistance even when it is not convenient or when we are busy with other things.  

最後まで堪え忍ぶということは、命じられたことをすべて、1日、1週間、あるいは1年だけではなく、この地上での死すべき旅の終わりまで行うことを意味します。それは信じられないほど長い時間のように思えるかもしれませんが、この世での時間が終わるとき、私たちはこの人生を振り返り、それがいかに短かったか驚くことでしょう。

Enduring to the end means doing all that we have been commanded to do, not just for a day, or a week, or even a year, but until the end of our mortal journey here on earth.  While that may seem like an impossibly long time, when our time here is over, we will look back on this life and marvel at how short it really was.

新しい週が始まります。自分の生活を吟味し、聖約の道をしっかりと歩んでいるかどうかを確めましょう。永遠の命という目標に向かって安全に前進し続けるために、必要な修正をしましょう。最後まで堪え忍ぶことは、すべての戒めの中で最も重要な戒めの一つであることを覚えておきましょう。戒めを守り、最後まで堪え忍ぶ忠実な人々に約束されている永遠の祝福をすべて受けるにふさわしい者になりましょう。

As we go through this week, let’s examine our own lives and see if we are still firmly on the covenant path.  Let’s make any corrections that may be necessary to keep us safely moving forward toward our goal of eternal life.  Let’s remember that enduring to the end is one of the most important of all the commandments.  Let’s be worthy to receive all the blessings of eternity that have been promised to the faithful who keep the commandments and endure to the end.
