したがって、あなたがたはこれからもキリストを確固として信じ、完全な希望の輝きを持ち、神とすべての人を愛して力強く進まなければならない。そして、キリストの言葉をよく味わいながら力強く進み、最後まで堪え忍ぶならば、見よ、御父は、「あなたがたは永遠の命を受ける」と言われる。ニーファイ第ニ章３１：２０

Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men.  Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life. 2 Nephi 31:20

福音の大いなる祝福のひとつは、その簡潔さです。福音を理解するのに何年も勉強する必要はありません。高度な教育も必要ありません。人によって求められる課題が異なることもありません。

One of the great blessings of the gospel is its simplicity.  It does not require years of study to understand it.  It does not require an advanced education to understand it.  It does not require different tasks for different people.

イエス・キリストの福音はシンプルで理解しやすいものです。天父のすべての娘や息子にとって、求められる条件は同じです。フリーパスをもらうことや、余分な重荷を背負わされたりすることはありません。

The gospel of Jesus Christ is simple and easy to understand.  The requirements are exactly the same for every daughter or son of Heavenly Father.  No one gets a free pass and no one gets extra burdens.  

この節でニーファイは、私たちが永遠の命を得るために必要なことを、短い言葉で説明しています。

In this verse, Nephi explains in just a few simple words what we need to do to have eternal life.

まず、私たちはキリストに堅固な信仰をもって前進しなければなりません。これは私たちが行動を起こす必要があることを意味します。私たちは天父がすべての問題を解決してくださることを期待して、ただ座しているわけにはいきません。大きな試練の時であっても、私たちはイエス・キリストへの信仰を持って前進することが期待されています。

First, we must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ.  This means that we need to take action.  We cannot just sit back and expect Heavenly Father to solve all of our problems.  Even in times of great trial, which we all have from time to time, we are expected to go forward with faith in Jesus Christ.

イエス・キリストへの信仰のゆえに、私たちは希望の輝きを持つ必要があります。困難な試練の中にあっても、天父が私たちを愛してくださっているということを覚えておく必要があります。たとえこの世の生活が心痛や試練に満ちていたとしても、救い主イエス・キリストの贖罪を通して、私たちは永遠の幸福を享受できることを忘れてはなりません。

Because of our faith in Jesus Christ, we need to have a brightness of hope.  Even in difficult trials, we need to remember that Heavenly Father loves us.   We need to remember that through the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ, we can enjoy eternal happiness, even if life in this world is full of heartache and trials.

私たちが行動するとき、神とすべての人々に対する愛を持つ必要があります。聖典には、見ることができる同胞を愛さないのであれば、見えない神を愛することはできないと教えられています。すべての人を愛することには、自分自身を愛することが含まれます。自分自身を愛さないなら、私たちは神を愛することも、同胞を愛することもできません。私たちは多くの弱さや失敗があっても、悔い改めて、前に進み、幸せになれることを忘れてはなりません。

As we act, we need to have a love of God and of all men.  We are taught in the scriptures that we cannot love God, whom we have not seen, if we do not love our fellow men, whom we have seen.  Loving all men includes loving ourselves.  We cannot love God or our fellow men if we do not love ourselves.  In spite of our many weaknesses and failings, it is important to remember that we can repent, we can go forward, we can be happy.

前進するためには、キリストの御言葉を味わう必要があります。預言者や使徒は、毎日聖文を研究する必要があると繰り返し教えてきました。今年は特に、モルモン書に記されているキリストの言葉を大いに味わう必要があります。

To help us press forward, we need to feast upon the word of Christ.  Prophets and apostles have repeatedly taught us that we need to study the scriptures daily.  This year especially, we need to feast upon the word of Christ as contained in the Book of Mormon.

最後に、そしておそらく最も重要なことですが、これらすべてのことを行った後、私たちは最後まで耐える必要があります。これらのことを数日間、数週間、あるいは数か月行うだけでは十分ではありません。聖約の道は、バプテスマからこの困難な世を去る日まで続きます。ネルソン大管長は、もし自分がその道から外れてしまったと感じるなら、悔い改めて正しい道に戻るために必要なことは何でもするよう勧めています。

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, having done all those things, we need to endure to the end.  Just doing those things for a few days, or a few weeks, or even a few months is not enough.  The covenant path reaches from our baptism right up to the day we leave this world of trouble.  If you feel you have strayed from that path, President Nelson has invited us to do whatever is necessary to repent and to get back on the path.

私たちがこれらの小さくてシンプルなことを行うなら、父は私たち一人一人にこう言われるでしょう、「あなたは永遠の命を受けるでしょう」。 これ以上の祝福はありません。

If we do these small and simple things, the Father will say to each one of us: Ye shall have eternal life.  There is no greater blessing than that.  

新しい週が始まります。ニーファイが教えてくれたことを覚えて過ごしましょう。福音の小さくてシンプルなことを毎日忘れずに行いましょう。希望と愛に満ちたイエス・キリストを信じ、前進していきましょう。毎日、続けましょう。道から外れたら、すぐに悔い改めて、この世と永遠で私たちを幸せにしてくれるものに立ち返ろうではありませんか。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember what Nephi has taught us.  Let’s remember to do the small and simple things of the gospel every day of our lives.  Let’s press forward with faith in Jesus Christ, filled with hope and love.  Let’s keep going, day by day.  When we stray from the path, let’s quickly repent and return to the things that will make us happy in this life and in eternity.
