それゆえ，悔い改めて，心をかたくなにしない者はだれであろうと、わたしの独り子を通じて憐れみを受け、罪の赦しを得る権利を持つ。これらの者はわたしの安息に入るであろう アルマ１２：３４
Therefore, whosoever repenteth, and hardeneth not his heart, he shall have claim on mercy through mine Only Begotten Son, unto a remission of his sins; and these shall enter into my rest. Alma 12:34
アルマはアンモナイハの人々に悔い改めを説くために遣わされました。人々は彼の言葉をすべて拒んだので、彼は街を去りました。家に戻る途中、天使が彼に現れ、戻って再び人々に説教するように命じました。アルマはすぐに引き返し、アモナイハへ戻っていきました。
Alma was sent to preach repentance to the people of Ammonihah. Those people rejected all his words and he left the city. As he was on the road back to his home, an angel appeared to him and commanded him to return and preach again to those people. Alma immediately turned around and went back to Ammonihah.
彼と彼の教えを拒んだ同じ人々のもとに戻るには、大きな信仰が必要だったに違いありません。彼はなぜ自分が再び遣わされるのか不思議に思ったかもしれません。それでも、彼は天使の命令に従いました。彼は街に入ったとき、ある人に何か食べるものをくれないかと尋ねました。その男の名前はアミュレクで、アルマの宣教師の同僚となりました。
It must have taken great faith to return to the same people that had rejected him and his words. He may have wondered why he was being sent back again. Nevertheless, he did as the angel commanded him. As he came into the city, he asked a man if he would give him something to eat. The man’s name was Amulek and he became a missionary companion to Alma.
アルマとアミュレクが人々に教えているとき、ゼーズロムという弁護士が人々をそそのかし、彼らを騙そうとしていました。彼らが神を拒むなら、彼は金と銀を差し出すと言いました。アルマとアミュレクは、後世では金や銀には何の価値もないことを彼に思い出させています。
As Alma and Amulek taught the people, a lawyer named Zeezrom challenges them and tries to trick them. He offers them gold and silver if they will reject God. Alma and Amulek remind him that gold and silver are of no worth after this life.
彼らはゼーズロムと人々に、神の子が来てすべての人を罪から救い出すことを教えました。彼らが教えを続けるうちに、ゼーズロムは彼らが真実を教えていることに気づき、彼らの言葉を信じ始めます。
They teach Zeezrom and the people that the Son of God will come to redeem everyone from their sins. As they continue teaching, Zeezrom realizes that they are teaching the truth and begins to believe their words.
悔い改めと主イエス・キリストへの信仰を通してのみ私たちは救われることができ、悔い改めと主イエス・キリストへの信仰を通してのみ、私たちは罪を赦されることができ、悔い改めと主イエス・キリストへの信仰を通してのみ、私たちは主の安息の中に入ることができるとゼーズロムは教えられました。
He is taught that it is only through repentance and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ that we can be redeemed. It is only through repentance and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ that we can be forgiven of our sins. It is only through repentance and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ that we can enter into the rest of the Lord.
イエス・キリストの福音の原則は変わりません。アルマとアミュレクが教えたこれらの原則は、今日の私たち一人一人にも当てはまります。私たちは皆、間違いを犯し、罪を犯してきました。私たちは皆、幸せになりたいと思っています。私たちは皆、それらの間違いや罪が許されることを望んでいます。私たちは皆、主の安息に入りたいと思っています。
The principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ do not change. These very same principles that were taught by Alma and Amulek still apply to each of us today. Each of us has made mistakes and has committed sins. We all want to be happy. We all want to be forgiven for those mistakes and sins. We all want to enter into the rest of the Lord.
もしあなたがアンモナイハの街にいたとしたら、アルマとアミュレクの説教に耳を傾けたでしょうか。あなたは自分の罪を悔い改めようとしたでしょうか? あなたもゼーズロムのように、最初は福音のメッセージを信じることを拒んだでしょうか?
If you had been in the city of Ammonihah, would you have listened to the preaching of Alma and Amulek? Would you have been willing to repent of your sins? Would you have been like Zeezrom, refusing to believe the message of the gospel at first?
それとも、「幾度となく呼ばれたが、私は聞こうとしなかった」(アルマ10:6)と語るアミュレクのようになったでしょうか？アミュレクは、アルマが来て教えるまで、福音のメッセージに興味を持つことはありませんでした。彼はイエス・キリストとその福音についての証を深め、友人や隣人に教えるためにアルマと一緒に行くことをいといませんでした。改宗すると、彼は偉大な宣教師となり、苦しみを通して自分の信仰を示しました。彼は福音を宣べ伝えたことで父親と家族から拒否されました。彼はイエス・キリストへの信仰のゆえに、すべてを諦めなければなりませんでした。
Or would you have been like Amulek, who says he was “called many times and I would not hear” (Alma 10:6)? Amulek had never responded to the message of the gospel until Alma came and taught him. He developed a testimony of Jesus Christ and his gospel and was willing to go with Alma to teach his friends and neighbors. Once converted, he became a great missionary and showed his faith by the things that he suffered. He was rejected by his own father and his family for preaching the gospel. He had to give up everything because of his faith in Jesus Christ.
新しい週が始まります。アルマとアミュレクから教えられたことについて考えてみましょう。苦しみや迫害にもかかわらず信仰と証を示した彼らの模範について考えてみましょう。神の言葉に対して心をかたくなにせず、アミュレクのようになれるよう努めましょう。イエス・キリストへの信仰を通して罪の赦しを受けるにふさわしい者になりましょう。
As we go through this week, let’s think about the things that were taught by Alma and Amulek. Let’s think about their example of faith and testimony in spite of suffering and persecutions. Let’s try to be more like Amulek by not hardening our hearts against the word of God. Let’s be worthy to receive a remission of our sins through our faith in Jesus Christ.
