わたしはあなたを大いなる国民とし、あなたを計り知れないほど祝福し、あなたの名をすべての国民の間で大いなるものとしよう。あなたはあなたの後の子孫にとって祝福の基となり、彼らはすべての国民にこの務めと神権を携えて行くであろう。わたしはあなたの名によって彼らを祝福しよう。この福音を受け入れるすべての者はあなたの名によって呼ばれ、あなたの子孫と見なされ、立ち上がってあなたを父としてたたえるであろう。アブラハム　２:９−１０

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee above measure, and make thy name great among all nations, and thou shalt be a blessing unto thy seed after thee, that in their hands they shall bear this ministry and Priesthood unto all nations; And I will bless them through thy name; for as many as receive this Gospel shall be called after thy name, and shall be accounted thy seed, and shall rise up and bless thee, as their father;  Abraham 2:9-10

The prophet Abraham was one of the great patriarchs of the Old Testament.  We read about him in the first part of Genesis.  We are given even more information in the book of Abraham, which was translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith.  

預言者アブラハムは旧約聖書の偉大な族長でした。創世記の最初の方でアブラハムについて述べられています。預言者ジョセフ・スミスによって翻訳されたアブラハム書には、さらに多くの情報が記載されています。

We learn that Abraham was a righteous man and that he was called by the Lord to teach the people.  The people had all become wicked and were worshiping idols.  This included even Abraham’s own father.  

アブラハムは義しく、人々に教えるために主から召された人であったと私たちは理解しています。人々は邪悪になり、偶像を崇拝していました。アブラハムの父親もそのひとりでした。

The wicked priests took Abraham and were going to offer him as a sacrifice to the gods of Egypt.  Through a great miracle, Abraham was protected and was saved by the Lord.  

邪悪な祭司たちはアブラハムを連れて行き、エジプトの神々のいけにえとして彼をささげようとしていました。大きな奇跡によって、アブラハムは主によって守られ、救われました。

After his escape from the wicked priests, the Lord told Abraham to leave the land of Chaldea where his father lived.  Abraham was told to go to a new land.  In Harran, the Lord appeared to Abraham and gave him instructions to leave Harran and travel to a new land.  

邪悪な祭司たちから逃げ出した後、父親が住んでいたカルデアの地を去り、新しい土地に行くように主はアブラハムに言われました。ハランにいた時、主がアブラハムに現れ、ハランを離れて新しい土地に行くように言われました。

He was told by the Lord that the Lord would make him “a minister to bear my name in a strange land which I will give unto thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession”.

主は「異国の地において、あなたをわたしの名を負う仕え人にし、わたしはその地を彼らに永遠の所有として与える」と彼に言われました。

Abraham was told that his posterity would become a great nation and that the Lord would bless Abraham beyond measure.  His posterity would be as numerous as the stars in the sky or the sands on the shore.

アブラハムの子孫が大いなる国民となり、計り知れないほどアブラハムを祝福するだろうと主は言われました。彼の子孫は、天の星や浜辺の砂のように増えることになるのです。

The blessing given to Abraham was that his posterity would “bear this ministry”.  In other words, they would be the missionaries to preach the Gospel to the world.   Abraham was also promised that, through his posterity, the Priesthood would be taken to all nations.

アブラハムに与えられた祝福は、彼の子孫が「この務めを携える」ということでした。言い換えれば、彼らは世界に福音を宣べ伝える宣教師になるのです。また、アブラハムの子孫を通して神権がすべての国に携えられることを約束されました。

Who are the posterity of Abraham?

アブラハムの子孫とは誰のことですか？

The posterity of Abraham are not just those who are direct blood descendants of Abraham.  His posterity also includes all those who accept the Gospel, are baptized, and keep the commandments of the Lord.

アブラハムの子孫は、アブラハムの直系の子孫だけではありません。彼の子孫には、福音を受け入れて、バプテスマを受け、主の戒めを守るすべての人が含まれます。

As we join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we are adopted into the family of Abraham.  We become heirs to all the blessings promised to Abraham.  We become the seed of Abraham by receiving in the holy Temple all the ordinances of salvation.

If we are the seed of Abraham, what are our responsibilities?

As the Lord told Abraham, his seed is to take the message of the Gospel and the authority of the Priesthood to all nations.  We are to teach everyone about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  It is through our work, as Abraham’s posterity, that “all the nations of the earth will be blessed”.

主がアブラハムに言われたように、彼の子孫は福音のメッセージと神権の権能をすべての国民に伝える義務があります。私たちは、イエス・キリストの福音をすべての人に教える必要があります。アブラハムの子孫である私たちの業を通して、「地上のすべての国民が祝福される」のです。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that we have a royal heritage.  Let’s remember that we are the posterity of the great prophet, Abraham.  Let’s remember the wonderful promises the Lord gave to Abraham.  Let’s do our best to carry out our responsibilities as the seed of Abraham.
