And on the seventh day I, God, ended my work, and all things which I had made; and I rested on the seventh day from all my work, and all things which I had made were finished, and I, God, saw that they were good; and I, God, blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because that in it I had rested from all my work which I, God, had created and made. Moses 3:2-3
When the work of the creation was finished, God rested from his labors. The seventh day became the first Sabbath day. From the days of Adam until now, we have been commanded to keep the Sabbath day holy. Just as God rested, we are commanded to rest from our daily labors on the Sabbath day.
創造の業を終えた後、神は業を離れて休まれました。そして第七日が最初の安息日となりました。アダムの時代から今日に至るまで、私たちは安息日を聖く保つように戒められてきました。神が休まれたように、私たちは安息日に毎日の労働から離れて休むように戒められています。
There are three great events in the history of the world that we are to remember on the Sabbath day.
世界の歴史の中で安息日について忘れてはならない３つの大いなる出来事があります。
First, we remember the creation of this world. We remember the great love Heavenly Father has for us. We remember that he created this world for us. It is a place where each of Heavenly Father’s sons and daughters can come and experience trials and testing. It is a place where we can prove ourselves worthy to return and live with our heavenly parents for eternity.
まず、この世界の創造です。私たちは天父が抱いておられる大きな愛を思い起こします。神が私たちのためにこの世界を創造されたのは、天父の息子と娘が来て試しを受ける場所を与え、私たちが天の両親の元に戻り、共に永遠に生きる資格があることを証明するためです。
This was the primary meaning of the Sabbath from Adam to Moses.
アダムからモーセまでの時代では、これが安息日の主な意味でした。
The second event that we remember on the Sabbath day is the Passover. The children of Israel were in bondage to the Egyptians. The prophet Moses was commanded to prepare the children of Israel to be free.
安息日に私たちが覚えておくべき２番目の出来事は過越の祭りです。イスラエルの人々はエジプト人から束縛を受けていました。預言者モーセは、イスラエルの人々が自由になる準備をするように命じられました。
They were told to put the blood of a lamb on their door posts. If they followed the instructions Moses gave them, the destroying angel would “pass over” their house and not kill anyone. By following the commandments of the Lord, the children of Israel were freed from bondage. The children of Israel were commanded to always remember their deliverance from bondage on the Sabbath day.
彼らは子羊の血を扉の柱に塗るように言われました。モーセが与えた指示に従えば、災いの天使は彼らの家を「通り過ぎ」誰も殺すことがなかったからです。主の戒めに従うことによって、イスラエルの人々は束縛から解放されました。彼らは、束縛から解放されたことを安息日に常に覚えておくように戒められました。
The third great event that we remember on the Sabbath day is the Atonement and resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. On that glorious Sabbath morning, following his crucifixion, our Savior came forth from the tomb. His great Atonement makes it possible for us to repent and gives to everyone the blessing of the resurrection. Good or evil, righteous or wicked, we will all be resurrected and stand before the Lord to be judged of our deeds here on earth.
安息日に私たちが覚えておくべき３番目の出来事は、救い主イエス・キリストの贖罪と復活です。その輝かしい安息日の朝、救い主ははりつけされた後、墓から蘇られました。救い主の偉大な贖罪は、悔い改めを可能にし、すべての人に復活の祝福を与えます。善人か悪人かに関わらず、私たちは皆復活し主の前に立って、この地上での行いを裁かれます。
The saints in New Testament times were commanded to remember the Atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the Sabbath day.
新約聖書の時代の聖徒たちは、安息日にイエス・キリストの贖罪と復活を思い起こすよう戒められていました。
On the Sabbath day, we are commanded to attend our meetings, to partake of the sacrament, to repent, and to remember these three great events.
安息日には集会に出席し、聖餐を取り、悔い改めることで、これらの３つの大いなる出来事を思い起こすよう戒められています。
As we begin this new year, let’s resolve to keep the Sabbath day holy, every week, all year long. Let’s remember the great events that have happened in the past that bring great blessings to our lives. Let’s remember that the commandment to keep the Sabbath day holy has been a commandment from the very beginning of this world.
新年にあたり、今年も毎週安息日を聖く保つことを決意しましょう。私たちの生活に大きな祝福をもたらす歴史上のこれらの素晴らしい出来事を忘れないようにしましょう。安息日を聖く保つという戒めは、この世界の初めからあった戒めであることを忘れないでください。
