主はこのように言う。すなわち、主なるわたしは、わたしを畏れる者に憐れみ深くかつ恵み深く、また最後まで義をもって真理にかなってわたしに仕える者に誉れを与えるのを喜びとする。彼らの受ける報いは大きく、彼らの栄光は永遠である。
教義と聖約７６：５－６
For thus saith the Lord — I, the Lord, am merciful and gracious unto those who fear me, and delight to honor those who serve me in righteousness and in truth unto the end. Great shall be their reward and eternal shall be their glory. D&C 76:5-6
教義と聖約 76 章で主は大きな祝福を約束してくださっています。この祝福は、地上で試練や苦難に遭遇するときに、私たちに希望を与えてくれます。
In Section 76 of the Doctrine & Covenants, the Lord gives us the promise of a great blessing. This blessing gives us hope as we face the trials and struggles of this mortal life.
私たちは皆、人生が決して容易でないことを経験から知っています。誰もが試練やチャレンジがあり、抱える問題と向き合っています。
This life is hard. We all know that. We all experience that. We all have trials and challenges. We all have our own struggles.
こうした重荷を背負い、困難な状況の中で前に進もうとするとき、私たちは時に「なぜ自分がここにいるのか」を忘れてしまいがちです。この世が厳しく、信仰の試練の場であることを、私たちは地上に来る前から知っていました。そして、この世が容易でないことも承知していたのです。
As we try to go forward each day, carrying those burdens and facing those trials, it is easy for us to forget why we are here. We knew that this life was going to be difficult. We knew that this life was going to be a hard test of our faith. We knew that this life was not going to be easy.
それでも、こうした試練こそが、私たちの信仰を強める唯一の道であることも知っていました。神を信頼すること、救い主に近づくことを学ぶ唯一の方法でもあるのです。
But we also knew that experiencing these trials is the only way that our faith can grow. It is the only way that we can learn to trust in God. It is the only way that we can learn to be more like our Savior.
また、私たちは決して一人ではないことも知っていました。預言者や使徒を通して導きを受けられること、ビショップや扶助協会の会長会が私たちを助けてくれること、そして聖霊が私たちを導いてくれることを、主は約束しておられます。
We also knew that we would not be left alone. We knew that we would have prophets and apostles to teach us. We knew that we would have bishops and Relief Society presidents to help us. We knew that we would have the Holy Ghost to guide us.
さらに、祝福を受ける方法を教えてくれる戒めも与えられています。どの戒めにも、主からの祝福が約束されています。そして主は、いつもその約束を守ってくださいます。私たちが最善を尽くして戒めを守るとき、主は約束された祝福を送ってくださいます。
We knew that we would have commandments given to us to show us how to receive blessings. Every commandment that has been given to us comes with a promised blessing. The Lord always keeps his word. When we do our best to obey a commandment, the Lord sends the promised blessings.
主は、私たち一人ひとりをよくご存知です。私たちは皆、愛にあふれる天の両親の息子であり娘であり、主は私たちが幸せになることを心から望んでおられます。
The Lord knows each one of us. We are all sons and daughters of Heavenly parents who love us very much and who want us to be happy.
戒めを守ることで、私たちは主を喜ばせることができます。より良くなろうと努力することで、主を喜ばせることができます。試練の中でも信仰を持って前に進むことによって、主を喜ばせることができるのです。
As we keep the commandments, we please the Lord. As we try to do better, we please the Lord. As we go forward with faith, in spite of our trials, we please the Lord.
主は「義をもって真理にかなってわたしに仕える者」に、素晴らしい祝福を約束しておられます。また、主の言葉に従う者に対して「憐れみ深くかつ恵み深く」あるとも約束しておられます。そして、主は「わたしに仕える者を喜びとする」とも語られました。
The Lord promises great blessings to those “who serve me in righteousness and in truth”. The Lord promises that he will be “merciful and gracious” to those who obey his words. The Lord says he “delights to honor those who serve me”.
では、その約束された祝福とは何でしょうか。
What is the promised blessing?
主は「彼らの受ける報いは大きく、彼らの栄光は永遠である」と言われています。
The Lord says, “Great shall be their reward and eternal shall be their glory”.
これ以上の祝福があるでしょうか？
What greater blessing could we receive than that?
この世で試練や苦難にあっても、前向きに歩み続けるときに、主のこの約束を決して忘れないようにしましょう。最後まで耐え忍ぶ者に備えられた報いがあることを心に留めましょう。そして、「義をもって真理にかなって」主に仕えることを忘れずにいましょう。忠実な者に約束された、偉大で永遠なる栄光にふさわしい者となれるよう努力しましょう。
As we go forward, day by day, through the trials and struggles of this life, let’s remember this great promise from the Lord. Let’s remember the great rewards that lay in store for us, if we endure to the end. Let’s remember to serve the Lord “in righteousness and truth” always. Let’s be worthy to receive the great and eternal glory promised to the faithful.
