For verily I say unto you, that great things await you. Doctrine & Covenants 45:62
教義と聖約第45章では、多くの大いなる重要な教義が預言者ジョセフ・スミスを通して教会に明らかにされました。特に、主はご自身の再臨の前に起こる出来事を幾つも明らかにされています。その中には、素晴らしく喜ばしいこともあれば、怖しく感じるようなこともあります。
In Section 45 of the Doctrine & Covenants, many great and important doctrines were revealed to the Church through the Prophet Joseph Smith. In particular, the Lord reveals a number of things that will take place prior to the Second Coming. Some of those things will be wonderful and amazing, while others will be scary and frightening.
今の世の中は、不安や恐れを感じることが多い場所です。世界中で、戦争や飢饉、疫病、自然災害が起きています。
The world is a scary place. Many bad things happen. All around the world, there are wars, famines, plagues, and natural disasters.
夜のニュースを見れば、困難や苦しみ、犯罪や悪の話題であふれています。人々の心が傷つけられたり、悲しい話題であふれています。
The evening news programs are filled with stories about hardship and suffering, about crime and wickedness, about evil people and evil deeds.
それでも、末日聖徒イエス・キリスト教会の会員として、私たちは「信仰をもって前進し、喜びと希望をもって生きていくように」と励まされています。
And yet, as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are encouraged to go forth with faith and to be cheerful and happy.
では、このような邪悪な世にあって、どうして私たちはそんなふうに生きられるのでしょうか？
How is that possible, in this evil and wicked world?
それは、愛情深い天の御父が私たちを導くために、生ける預言者と使徒という大きな祝福を与えてくださっているからです。私たちは将来に備えるために何をすべきかを知っています。私たちは誰を信頼し、従えばよいかも知っています。 そして、この世で試練や困難があっても、主は「戒めを守る者には平安と幸せという大いなる祝福を与える」と約束してくださっています。
It is possible because a loving Heavenly Father has given us the great blessing of have living prophets and apostles to lead and to guide us. We know what we should do to prepare for the future. We know who we can trust to teach us. We know that, while there will be trials and hardships in this life, the Lord has promised great blessings of peace and happiness to those who keep the commandments.
この章の62節で、主は「大いなることがあなたがたを待ち受けている」と明確に言っておられます。
In verse 62 of this Section, the Lord tells us very clearly that “great things await you”.
では、当時のカートランドの聖徒たちが、少し先の未来を見れたとしたら、「大いなることが待ち受けている」と本当に思えたでしょうか？ この後数年は、迫害や暴徒、殺害や苦しみの連続でした。彼らはカートランドを追われ、ミズーリを追われ、ノーブーにおいても同じように追い出されました。持っていたすべてを置いて、西の地へとつらい旅に出なければならなかったのです。
If the Saints in Kirtland could have seen a few years into the future, would they have thought that great things awaited them? The next few years were filled with persecutions, mobs, killings, and hardships. They would be driven out of Kirtland, out of Missouri, out of Nauvoo. They would be required to leave everything they had and start on a very difficult journey to somewhere in the west.
これのどこが「大いなること」なのでしょうか？
Does that sound like “great things”?
けれど、たしかに彼らには大いなる祝福が与えられたのです。たとえば、神殿の回復と神殿儀式を通じて与えられる永遠の祝福は、カートランドで始まり、ノーブーでも続きました。カートランド神殿で預言者エリヤによって、結び固めの権能が地上に回復され、家族が永遠の家族となる道が開かれたのです。ごくわずかな開拓者から始まった教会は、今では世界中に広がり、何百万人もの人々の人生を祝福しています。
And yet, great things did come to them. For example, the restoration of temples and the eternal blessings of the temple ordinances began in Kirtland and continued in Nauvoo. The sealing power was restored to the earth by the Prophet Elijah in the Kirtland Temple and families could become eternal families. From a few thousand struggling pioneers, the Church has grown into a world-wide organization that blesses the lives of millions of people today.
ネルソン大管長はいつも、「回復はまだ終わっていない」と教えています。まだまだ、すばらしいこと、驚くような祝福がこれからも明らかにされていきます。預言者や使徒に従っていくとき、私たちはそのような素晴らしい祝福を受けることができるのです。
President Nelson frequently reminds us that the Restoration is not over. Many great and wonderful things are still to be revealed. As we follow the prophets and apostles, we will receive the blessings of many more great and wonderful things in the future.
新しい週が始まります。ネガティブなニュースや悪いことはありますが、「これから素晴らしいことが待っている」ことを忘れないでください。これは主の約束であることを忘れないでください。そして、その「大いなること」に備えていきましょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember that, in spite of all the negative news and bad things, there are still great things ahead. Let’s remember that this is a promise of the Lord. Let’s be ready for those great things!
