For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things.  2 Nephi 2:11

リーハイは息子ヤコブへ与えた祝福の中で、私たちに重要な原則を教えています。それは人生の多くの困難や試練に関する答えです。

In Lehi’s blessing to his son Jacob, Lehi teaches us an important principle.  It is the answer to many of life’s difficulties and trials.

この死すべき人生を旅する中で、私たちは常に問題に直面します。簡単に解決できる問題もあります。問題によっては大きく、解決するのに時間と労力を要する場合もあります。中には、解決するのに一生を要するような巨大なものもあります。

As we travel through this mortal life, we are constantly faced with problems.  Some problems are simple and can be solved easily.  Some problems are large, and take time and effort to overcome.  Some problems are enormous and may take a lifetime to solve.  

人生はなぜこんなにも難しいのでしょうか？

Why is life so hard?

すべての戒めを守るために最善を尽くしているのに、なぜ未だに難しい課題に直面しているのでしょうか？

Why do we still have hard challenges when we are doing our best to keep all the commandments?

聖約の道をしっかりと歩んでいれば、人生はもっと楽になるはずだと思いませんか？

Shouldn’t life be easier if we are staying firmly on the covenant path?

主の預言者と使徒は、この人生は困難になるように計画されていると繰り返し教えてきました。今は私たち一人ひとりにとって試練と試練の時なのです。

The Lord’s prophets and apostles have repeatedly taught us that this life is designed to be difficult.  It is a time of testing and trial for each of us.

私たちが主によって約束されたすべての祝福を受けるにふさわしい者となるためには、もっと主に似たものになる必要があります。主のようになるためには、困難や試練を経験する必要があります。それらの困難や試練こそが、私たちがより救い主に近ずく方法を学ぶ助けとなります。

If we are to be worthy to receive all the blessings that have been promised by the Lord, we need to become more like him.  In order to become more like him, we need to go through challenges and trials.  It is those challenges, trials, and difficulties that help us to learn how to be more our Savior.

ピアノの演奏が上手くなりたい、サッカーが上手くなりたい、歌が上手くなりたい、など、何であれ上手くなりたいと思っているとします。

Let’s say you want to become better at playing the piano, or better at playing soccer, or better at singing, or better at almost anything.

練習なくして上達する人はいません。ピアノ、サッカー、歌など、自分の才能が何であれ、より上手になるためには毎日練習しなければなりません。

No one improves without practice.  You must practice every day to become better at playing the piano, or playing soccer, or singing, or whatever else your talent may be.

練習すると、たくさんの間違いを犯すでしょう。それが「練習」と呼ばれる理由です。私たちはハードワーク、練習、失敗することによって改善方法を学びます。

As you practice, you will make many mistakes.  That is why it is called “practice”.  It is through hard work, through practice, and through making mistakes that we learn how to improve.

この人生において、私たちは救い主のようになるために練習しています。練習する中で、私たちは多くの間違いを犯します。救い主イエス・キリストの偉大な贖罪のおかげで、練習中に間違いを犯したときでも、悔い改めることができます。もう一度試してみることができます。私たちはより良くなる方法を学ぶことができるのです。

In this life, we are practicing to become more like our Savior.  As we practice, we make many mistakes.  Because of the great Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ, when we make mistakes during our practice, we can repent.  We can try again.  We can learn to be better.

サタンは私たちが良くなることを望んでいません。彼は私たちが惨めになることを望んでいます。私たちが失敗することを望んでいます。私たちに諦めてほしいと望んでいます。私たちに練習をやめさせようとして多くの策略をめぐらしています。

Satan does not want us to be better.  He wants us to be miserable.  He wants us to fail.  He wants us to give up.  He tries many tricks to make us stop practicing.

天父とイエス・キリストは私たちが成功することを望んでおられます。私たちが約束されたすべての祝福を受ける資格を得ることを望んでおられます。私たちが永遠に幸せになることを望んでおられます。私たちが永遠に幸せになるためには練習する必要があることをご存知です。私たちを祝福し、導き、この世の試練や困難に直面する時、私たちを助けてくださるでしょう。

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ want us to succeed.  They want us to qualify for all the promised blessings.  They want us to be happy forever.  They know that, for us to be happy forever, we need to practice.  They will bless us and guide us and help us as we struggle through the trials and difficulties of this life.

新しい週が始まります。物事には反対のものが重要であることを忘れないでください。逆境は私たちを成長させてくれることを忘れないでください。練習するのが辛いこともありますが、なぜ練習するのか、誰のようになれるために練習するのかを覚えていましょう。サタンは私たちが失敗することを望んでいますが、天父と救い主イエス・キリストは私たちが永遠に幸せになることを望んでおられることを心に留めて過ごしましょう。一生懸命に練習し、学び、救い主に日々近づきましょう。

As we go through this week, let’s remember that opposition is important.  Let’s remember that opposition helps us grow.  Even though it is sometimes painful to practice, let’s remember why we are practicing and who we are practicing to become like.  Let’s remember that Satan wants us to fail, but Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ want us to be happy forever.  Let’s work hard, practice every day, and learn to become more like our Savior.
