しかし見よ、あなたは自分の罪を神から隠すことはできない。また、悔い改めなければ、あなたの罪は終わりの日にあなたを責める証となるであろう。アルマ３９：８

But behold, ye cannot hide your crimes from God; and except ye repent they will stand as a testimony against you at the last day.  Alma 39:8

この死すべき人生で、私たちは皆、間違いを犯します。誰もが罪を犯します。罪には小さなものもあれば、大きなものもあります。しかし、たとえ小さな罪であっても、私たちを天の御父から遠ざけ、私たちが必要な天の御父が用意されている祝福から遠ざけてしまいます。

As we go through this mortal life, we all make mistakes.  We all commit sins.  Some sins are small, some are large.  However, even small sins move us away from Heavenly Father and prevent him from giving us the blessings that we need.

子どもの頃、何か悪いことをすると、それを親に隠そうとすることがあります。親にばれたら罰を受けるとわかっていたからです。罰の苦痛を避けるために、私たちは「罪」を親から隠そうとしました。うまくいくこともあれば、親に「罪」がばれて、罪を犯したことと隠そうとしたことの両方を罰せられることもあります。

As small children, when we did something bad, we would sometimes try to hide it from our parents.  We knew that if they found out what we did, we would be punished.  To avoid the pain of punishment, we tried to hide our “sins” from our parents.  Sometimes we were successful and got away without being punished.  Other times, our parents found out about our “sin” and punished us twice, once for the sin, and once for trying to hide it.

子供の頃に学んだこの行動は、今でも忘れていないことでしょう。私たちは「罪」を隠すことで罰を避けることを学びました。大人になると、「罪」を隠すことがより容易になります。悔い改めるべきであることは分かっていますが、子供の頃と同じように、罪を告白すると罰が下ることを恐れます。そのため、子供の時のように、罪を隠せば罰を受けずに済むと考えてしまうのです。

Perhaps this behavior that we learned in our childhood is still with us.  We learned to avoid punishment by hiding our “sins”.  As adults, it is easier for us to hid our “sins”.  We know we should repent, but, as in our childhood, we are afraid of the punishment that make come if we confess our sins.  So, like a little child, we think we can hide our sins and thus not be punished.

この行動にはふたつの問題があります。

There are two problems with this behavior.

まず第一に、天の御父から罪を隠すことはできません。御父は私たちがしたこと、なぜしたのか、いつしたのか、すべてをご存知です。私たちが犯した罪をすべてご存知です。私たちは両親から「罪」を隠すことができたかもしれませんが、天の御父から罪を隠すことはできません。

First of all, it is not possible to hide our sins from Heavenly Father.  He knows everything that we have done, why we did it, and when we did it.  He knows every sin that we have ever committed.  We may have been able to hide our “sins” from our parents, but we cannot hide our sins from Heavenly Father.

罪を告白して天の御父が「えっ、そんなことをしたなんて知らなかったよ！」と言われるのを想像できますか？もちろんそんなことはありません。御父は私たちが何をしたか正確にご存知です。

Can you imagine confessing to a sin and having Heavenly Father say, “What?  I didn’t know you did that!”  Of course not.  He already knows exactly what we have done.

第二に、「罰」はありません。まったく逆です。心から悔い改めて赦しを求めるなら、私たちの罪はすべて消し去られるのです。私たちはもはやそれらの罪の重さを感じず、それらの罪に対する悲しみや後悔も感じません。私たちはもはや恥ずかしさを感じません。

Second, there is no “punishment”.  Quite the opposite.  If we truly repent and seek forgiveness, all of our sins are wiped away.  We no longer feel the weight of those sins.  We no longer feel the grief and remorse for those sins.  We no longer feel ashamed.

悔い改めは、愛にあふれた天の御父と救い主イエス・キリストからの賜物です。お二人とも私たちを深く愛しておられ、私たちが再び清くなることを何よりも望んでおられます。真に悔い改めるなら、約束された祝福をすべて受けることができます。

Repentance is a gift from a loving Heavenly Father and from our Savior, Jesus Christ.  They both love us very much and want nothing more than for us to become clean again.  If we truly repent, we can receive all of the promised blessings.  

サタンは、悔い改めは罰につながると私たちに信じさせようとしています。私たちを騙そうとしているのです。「あなたがしたことは誰も知らないから、秘密にしておけばいい」と私たちに告げます。サタンは、私たちが必要とする祝福を奪おうとしているのです。

Satan wants us to believe that repentance will lead to punishment.  He wants to trick us.  He tells us that “no one knows what you did, so just keep it a secret”.  He wants to deny us the blessings that we need.

悔い改めは、一生懸命働いた後にお風呂に入るようなものです。一日中働いて疲れて汗をかき汚れていると、気分はよくありません。しかし、お風呂に入って体をきれいにすると、随分気分がよくなります。悔い改める努力をし、悔い改めるために必要なことをすれば、再び清らかで幸せな気持ちになるのです。

Repentance is like taking a bath after working hard.  When you have been working all day and are tired, sweaty, and dirty, you don’t feel good.  After taking a bath, though, and being washed clean, you feel much better.  If we make the effort to repent, if we do the things that we need to do to repent, we will feel clean and happy again.

もしあなたの人生にまだ隠している罪があるなら、今こそそれを捨て去るときです。ビショップに会い、あなたが犯した罪を正確に伝え、ビショップの霊感を受けた助言に従ってください。時には恥ずかしいかもしれませんが、罪を告白することは真の悔い改めの過程の一部です。怖がったり恥ずかしかったりするかもしれませんが、それが終われば、あなたが求めていた平安と幸福を感じるでしょう。

If there are still sins in your life that you are hiding, now is the time to get rid of them.  Meet with your Bishop, tell him exactly what you have done, and follow his inspired counsel.  It may be embarrassing sometimes, but confessing the sin is part of a true repentance process.  As scary or as embarrassing as it might be, when it is over, you will feel the peace and happiness that you have been seeking.

新しい週が始まります。少し時間を取って自分自身を注意深く見つめ、悔い改める必要があることを見極めましょう。勇気を出して神権指導者に会い、悔い改めるための助けを得ましょう。「もうわたしたちの罪を覚えない」とおっしゃる愛にあふれた天の御父を信頼しましょう。サタンの策略を無視して、暗闇から抜け出して光の中に戻りましょう。そうすれば、あなたはもっと幸せになれるでしょう。

As we go through this week, let’s take some time to carefully interview ourselves and see what we need to repent of.  Let’s have the courage to meet with our priesthood leaders and get their help to repent.  Let’s trust in a loving Heavenly Father who says that he will “remember our sins no more”.  Let’s ignore Satan’s tricks and come out of darkness and back into the light.  You will be so much happier if you do this.
