Wherefore, stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come; for behold, it

cometh quickly, saith the Lord.  Doctrine & Covenants 87:8

教義と聖約第87章は、非常に興味深い啓示です。これは1832年に預言者ジョセフ・スミスに与えられたもので、南北戦争における悲惨で恐ろしい苦しみを予言しています。南北戦争はこの啓示から28年後、1860年に始まりました。そして、主が明らかにされたとおり、戦争はサウスカロライナ州から始まりました。

Section 87 of the Doctrine and Covenants is very interesting.  This revelation, given to the Prophet

Joseph Smith in 1832, is a prophecy about the great and terrible sufferings that will happen in the

American Civil War.  The American Civil War began in 1860, 28 years after this revelation was received. 

And, as the Lord revealed, the American Civil War did begin with the state of South Carolina.

この啓示は、救い主の再臨に先立って起こるであろう暗い出来事を思い起こさせます。飢饉、疫病、地震が発生し、あらゆる国々で戦争が繰り広げられると記されています。これは、世の人々に悔い改めるよう警告するものです。

This revelation is a somber reminder of the bad things that will happen before the Second Coming of the

Savior.  We are told that there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes and that war shall be poured out

upon all nations. This is a warning to the world to repent.

しかし、この中には主からの慰めの約束も含まれています。第8節では、主が「聖なる場所に立ち、動かされないようにしなさい」と命じておられます。これは、終わりの日に来る災いから私たちを守るための勧めです。

However, it also contains a comforting promise from the Lord.  In verse 8, the Lord commands us to

“stand in holy places”.  This is for our protection against the calamities that will come in the last days.

では、「聖なる場所に立つ」とはどういう意味でしょうか？「聖なる場所」とは何を指しているのでしょうか？

What does it mean to “stand in holy places”?  What are “holy places”?

私たちは総大会などを通して、「聖なる場所」が複数あることを学んできました。

We have been taught in General Conferences that there are many “holy places”.  

一つ目の「聖なる場所」は、私たちの家です。家族と暮らしているか、一人暮らしをしているかは関係ありません。大きな家に住んでいるか、小さなアパートに住んでいるかも問題ではありません。また、地球上のどこに住んでいるかも関係ありません。

One of the “holy places” is our own home.  It doesn’t matter if we are surrounded by a family, or if we are

living all alone.  It doesn’t matter whether we live in a large house or a very small apartment.  It doesn’t

matter where on the earth we live.

重要なのは、私たちがどのようにして主の御霊を家に招いているかということです。私たちの家は、御霊が喜んで来られる場所となっているでしょうか？毎日祈りをしていますか？聖文を頻繁に読んでいますか？御霊を悲しませるようなものが家に置かれてはいないでしょうか？

What does matter is how we invite the Spirit of the Lord to be with us.  Do we make our home a place

where the Spirit is welcome?  Are there prayers in our home each day?  Are the scriptures read

frequently in our home?  Is there anything in our home that would offend the Spirit?

私たちは、自分の家を「聖なる場所」とすることによって、人生の嵐の中で避難できる場所にすることができます。私たちが救い主のようになろうと努力し、主の戒めを守るならば、御霊は私たちの家に平安と祝福をもたらしてくださいます。

We can make our own home a place of refuge from the storms of life by making it a “holy place”.  As we

do our best to become more like our Savior and to keep his commandments, the Spirit will bless our

home with peace.  

二つ目の「聖なる場所」は、教会の建物です。私たちはすべての集会、特に聖餐会に出席するために最善を尽くしているでしょうか？自分に与えられた召しに誠実に奉仕していますか？教会に来るすべての人に親切に接し、助けようと心がけていますか？私たちが奉仕し、集会に出席する努力を続けるなら、教会の建物は確かに「聖なる場所」となるでしょう。

Another “holy place” is our Church buildings.  Do you do your best to attend all of the meetings, especially

the Sacrament meeting?  Do you do your best to serve in your calling?  Do you try to help others and to

be kind to everyone that comes to Church?  If we do our best to serve and to attend our meetings, our

Church building will become one of the “holy places”.

三つ目であり、最も重要な「聖なる場所」は、神殿です。 私たちは神殿で、永遠の幸福のために必要な神権の儀式を受けることができます。 私たちは神殿で、永遠の家族として結ばれることができます。 そして、神殿で、人生の導きとなる啓示を受けることができます。この「聖なる場所」に立つためには、主の戒めを守り、この大いなる祝福にふさわしい生活を送る必要があります。

The most important “holy place” is the temple.  It is in the temple that we receive the ordinances of the

priesthood that are necessary for our eternal happiness.  It is in the temple that we can become eternal

families.  It is in the temple that we can receive revelation and guidance for our lives.  In order to stand in

this “holy place”, we must keep the commandments of the Lord and live our lives so as to be worthy of

this great blessing.

私たちは、この人生には試練や困難が伴うことを幾度も教えられてきました。しかし、私たちが「聖なる場所」に立つならば、主は私たちを守り、祝福してくださると約束しておられます。主は、常に「聖なる場所」に立つ人々を見守っておられるのです。

We have been taught many times that there will be trials and difficulties in this life.  But we have also

been promised that, if we stand in holy places, we will be protected.  The Lord will always protect and

bless those who stand in holy places.

新しい週が始まります。主が命じておられる「常に聖なる場所に立つこと」を心に留めて過ごしましょう。自分の家を聖なる場所にするために最善を尽くしましょう。教会の集会に出席し、召しに忠実であるよう努めましょう。そして、可能な限り頻繁に、神殿に参入できるよう努力しましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the Lord’s commandment to us to always stand in holy

places.  Let’s do our best to make our own homes a holy place.  Let’s do our best to attend our meetings

and to serve in our callings.  And let’s do our best to attend the temple as often as our circumstances will

allow.
