Pray always, and I will pour out my Spirit upon you, and great shall be your blessings — yea, even more than if you should obtain the treasures of earth and corruptibleness to the extent thereof. Doctrine & Covenants 19:38

Section 19 of the Doctrine & Covenants records a revelation given through the Prophet Joseph Smith to Martin Harris in 1830. Martin Harris was a prosperous farmer who had gained a testimony of the gospel and wanted to help the Prophet Joseph Smith.
この啓示では、主はマーティン・ハリスにモルモン書の出版のための資金を提供するように命じておられます。モルモン書の初版を印刷する費用は約 3,000 ドルでした。それは当時の人にとって非常に多額のお金でした。
In this revelation, the Lord commands Martin Harris to provide funds for the publication of the Book of Mormon. The cost of printing the first edition of the Book of Mormon was about $3,000.00. That was a very large sum of money in those days.
主はマーティン・ハリスに、この世的な財産を求めるのではなく、モルモン書の印刷費用としてそれを使うように指示しておられます。マーティン・ハリスは主の戒めに従い、自分の農場を担保にお金を借り、印刷費用を支払いました。
The Lord instructs Martin Harris not to covet his own worldly property, but to use it to pay for the printing of the Book of Mormon. Obeying the commandment of the Lord, Martin Harris mortgaged his farm in order to get the money to pay for the printing.
この章の後半で、主はマーティンと私たちに、この世的な財産と「地の宝」はそれほど重要ではないと教えておられます。私たちが戒めに従うときに主から与えられる祝福は、地の宝よりもはるかに価値があるのです。
Later in this same Section, the Lord explains to Martin, and to us as well, that worldly property and “the treasures of the earth” are not very important. The blessings that come from the Lord as we obey the commandments are much greater than the treasures of the earth.
マーティンは「常に祈る」ように言われています。私達もまた常に祈るように命じられています。この戒めは聖典の中で何度も教えられている大切な戒めです。
Martin is told to “pray always”. We have also been commanded to pray always. This commandment is recorded many different times in the scriptures.
私たちが常に祈るなら、主は私たちに御霊を注ぐと約束されています。
If we pray always, the Lord promises to pour out his Spirit on us.
それだけではありません。主はまた「あなたの祝福は大いなるものとなる」と私たちに約束されています。
And this is not all. The Lord also promises us that “great shall be your blessing”.
主はマーティンと私たちに、戒めを守ることで享受できる祝福は、地の宝すべてよりも価値があると教えておられます。
The Lord tells Martin, and all of us as well, that the blessing which we can receive if we keep the commandments are greater in value than all the treasures of the earth.
この世の人々はお金や高価な服、大きな家、高価な車などを欲しがります。しかし、それらのどれも一時的で、永続的な価値を持っていません。
The world values money above everything else. The world wants money. The world wants fancy clothes. The world wants big houses. The world wants expensive cars. But none of those things has any lasting value.
私たちが死ぬと、これらすべてのものがなくなることをこの世の人々は理解していません。誰もそれらを霊界に持って行くことはできません。私たちが死ぬとき、お金や高価な服、大きな家、高価な車などを持って行くことはできないのです。
The world does not understand that all those things will be gone when we die. No one can take any of those things with them into the Spirit world. We cannot take any money, or fancy clothes, or big houses, or expensive cars with us when we die.
これが主の祝福がとても価値があるという理由です。それらの祝福は、私たちが霊界に持って行くことができるものです。イエス・キリストについての証を持って行くことができます。バプテスマの聖約を持って行くことができます。神殿の祝福を持って行くことができます。
This is why the blessings of the Lord are of such great value. Those blessings are things that we can take with us into the Spirit world. We can take our testimonies of Jesus Christ with us. We can take our baptismal covenants with us. We can take our temple blessings with us.
それらは永遠に続く、最高の祝福であり、私たちが求めるべきものなのです。
These are the things that have eternal value. These are the things that are the greatest blessings. These are the things that we should seek for.
新しい週が始まります。マーティン・ハリスに与えられた主の戒めを心に留めて過ごしましょう。常に祈ることを忘れないでください。私たちが死ぬと、この世のものはすべて残して行くことを忘れないでください。現世と来世において、主の祝福が大いなる価値があることを覚えていましょう。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember the commandments of the Lord to Martin Harris. Let’s remember to pray always. Let’s remember that the things of this world will all be left behind when we die. Let’s remember the greater value of the blessings from the Lord, both in this life and in the life to come.
