In April of 1829, Oliver Cowdery began to serve as a scribe for the Prophet Joseph Smith. Oliver had received a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and of the Prophet’s testimony concerning the Plates.
オリバーは学校の教師をしており、優れた文章力を持っていました。預言者が金版の言葉を口述し、オリバーはそれらを書き留めました。エマと後にマーティン・ハリスも少し書いていますが、モルモン書の手書きの原稿の大部分はオリバーによって書かれました。
Oliver had been a school teacher and had good penmanship. As the Prophet dictated the words from the Plates, Oliver wrote them down. Although Emma and later Martin Harris had each written a little, the bulk of the original hand-written manuscript of the Book of Mormon was written by Oliver.
オリバーはジョセフに、主が彼に何をしてほしいか尋ねました。ジョセフは主に尋ね、オリバーの質問への答えとして6章に記録された啓示を受けました。
Oliver asked Joseph what the Lord desired him to do. Joseph inquired of the Lord and received the revelation recorded in Section 6 as an answer to Oliver’s question.

There are many important messages contained in this short Section. The message we will focus on is in verse 13. In these times of uncertainty, fear, and doubt, it is a wonderful message of hope, not just for Oliver, but for all of us.

We all know and understand that this life is short. We know that it is a time of testing and hardships. It is filled with trials and difficulties.

However, it is very important to remember why we are here and why we experience trials. We are here to be tested and tried. We are here to show Heavenly Father that we will be obedient. We are here to show our faith by keeping the commandments.

Yes, that is hard. Yes, that is very difficult sometimes. Yes, that makes us suffer sometimes.
それほど大変なことなら、私たちはなぜそれをするのでしょうか？ なぜ試練と苦しみに耐えるのでしょうか？なぜ戒めを守ろうと努力するのでしょうか？
If it is so hard, why do we do it? Why do we endure the trials and suffering? Why do we struggle to keep the commandments?
主が私たちに与えてくださった大いなる約束のために、これらすべてを行います。私たちは永遠にわたり幸せに暮らしたいので、これらすべてを行います。私たちは家族と共に永遠の命を得る資格を受けるためにこれらすべてを行います。
We do all these things because of the great promises the Lord has given to us. We do all these things because we want to be happy for all eternity. We do all these things to qualify for eternal life with our families.
この節で、主は私たちにその大いなる約束を思い起こさせています。私たちはただふたつのことをするだけでよいと言われています。私たちは「善を行い」、「最後まで忠実であり続ける」必要があります。私たちがこれらふたつのことを行うならば、神の最大の賜物である救いの賜物を得るのにふさわしくなれるのです。
In this verse, the Lord reminds us of those great promises. We are told that we only need to do two things. We need to “do good” and we need to “hold out faithful to the end”. If we do those two things, we will qualify for the greatest gift of God, the gift of salvation.
私たちは裕福である必要はありません。有名になる必要はありません。教会で重要な召しをする必要もありません。私たちはただ善を行い、最後まで忠実であり続けるだけでよいのです。
We don’t have to be rich. We don’t have to be famous. We don’t have to have an important calling in the Church. We just have to do good and endure to the end.
今日の私たちにとって、なんと素晴らしい希望のメッセージでしょう。
What a wonderful message of hope for us today!
新しい週が始まります。人生を永遠の視点を持って歩むことを忘れないでください。日々の試練の先に私たちを待っている大きな祝福を覚えていましょう。苦しんでいるかもしれない周りの人に私たちの希望を分かち合いましょう。「善を行い」「最後まで忠実でありましょう」。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember to keep an eternal perspective on life. Let’s look beyond the day to day trials and remember the great blessings that await us. Let’s share our hope with those around us to may be struggling. Let’s all “do good” and “hold out faithful to the end”!
